“So, you living at the infamous serial killer's apartment?”
I looked at the guy questionably before asking him about it, “..I'm sorry, what?” He kinda just looked at me with a dumbfounded expression before sitting up from his bed. “Oh.. Haven't heard of this building I guess?” He asked, to which I shook my head in response to.
The boy sighed and got up, walked towards me and stretched his hand out for a handshake, “Well, hey there residents of 402. I'm Pheonix, but friends call me Nix.” Wow, what a way to ignore somebody. Anyway, I shook his hand anyway and introduced myself in return, “Xavier. Me and my parents moved in from L.A for a job my dad got here.” I said.
Nix simply nodded before going back to whatever he was doing until I disturbed him with the same question, “Hold on! What did you mean by that??” I asked him, seemingly more annoyed now than before. Nix just sighed and sat on the bed. He just shrugged his shoulders before asking a question, “Have you never heard of the Sally Face Killer Case?”
The name was way too new for me. My eyebrows pressed against one another as I shook my head, “..No. Why?” I asked again. The guy took a deep sigh and finally started speaking up words I needed to hear.
“About like, I dunno, almost 20 years ago, there was this guy who got arrested for killing every living tenant that lived in this apartment at the time. Some say he was just crazy, others say he was a heartless motherfucker. Man, guy even killed his own dad dude. He didn't show any remorse as what was shown in the camera footage the apartment had caught.”
I just listened as I began to process what the fuck Nix had just told me. A serial killer used to live here..? Then why is the building still intact?? I had so many questions going on in my head, I didn't even know which one to ask..
“I know you're pretty confused too.” Pheonix said, still looking at me. I glanced up to look at him as he continued. “The building's still here cause soon after the case, the owner of the apartment somehow managed to convince the government officials to leave the apartment under his family name, Addison, and for it to not be destroyed at all.”
I scoffed at what he had said, getting interested in the history of this building myself. I sat down next to him and looked at his direction. “So.. he used to live in 402?”
“Hell yeah. Oh, and I heard that his friend used to live here, in the basement. His name was Lawrence or whatever the fuck his name was. I don't really remember.” He continued. Wow, this building had a lot more to it than I thought. I took a sigh after processing every bit of info this guy told me. It was quite the shocker.. knowing that innocent people died in this very building, for no reason at all.
I didn't realize how long I zoned out for. I only was snapped back to reality when Nix snapped his fingers right in front of my face. “Hey, You okay?” He asked while looking at me. I just nodded in response before asking him yet another question. “Is this case available on Google?”
And with that, me and Nix were in front of his computer, searching up this Sally Face serial killer's case. We pulled up the very first website that opened up, showing a full documentary of the Sally Face killer. “You're gonna have to pull up another chair for this one.” Nix said. I sighed and got a plastic stool from the outside basement door and sat next to him as we read through the entire documentary.
The documentary was unbelievably long, but I got the entire story— or, well, case in mind. Sally Face, or Sal Fisher, was a boy who was born with an unusual hair color. He moved into Addison Apartments when he was 15, studied at Nockfell High and is now buried in the only Nockfell graveyard here, which was a few blocks down the road. He would always have a prosthetic mask on as he was apparently attacked by a dog, which didn't make quite sense to me. Why would someone wear a mask if their skin was just scratched by a dog? Unless their face was mauled, that is...
Anyhow, at the age of about 20 years old, his step-brother, Larry Johnson, had committed suicide by jumping off of the treehouse just behind the building. A few days after, Sal was just visiting the apartment one time before the security cam footage showed him coming out from the owner's room with a kitchen knife as he, one by one, killed every tenant in the building. His neighbors, his friends, his family. Hell, he even killed a child.
During his trial, he kept repeating about some kind of cult? And how he had no other choice but to end those tainted by “the darkness”. No one at the court believed him at the trial, and three years later, Sal was executed by the electric shock chair. In the website, it showed some pics of him during court, several pics of him and Larry, along with two other people. After further research, we found out the other two were Todd Morrison and Ashley Campbell. And, unfortunately, Todd Morrison had apparently committed suicide as well as he had went insane ever since Sal had committed the murder. According to the website, he couldn't bear the truth that his own best friend would have committed such a crime.
Reading that documentary.. I had no idea what to feel. This felt so surreal. Knowing all of that happened in these walls. But, something still didn't sit right with me.
“Is there any footage or video of the trial?” I asked Pheonix, to which he looked at me weirdly. “Video? Why would you want a video?”
I simply thought for a few seconds before responding, “I need to listen to the full story in detail.”
“... There's no way that was just a coincidence.”
