Finally, after one long break and 7 other classes, I found myself picking up my bag from my locker to start heading home. I was mostly waiting for Nix to finish up. His locker got shifted to a whole different aisle, so it took him some time to catch up to me at the school gates.
I was siting next to the gates on the floor, not really caring for my clothes to get dirty or not. I'll dust it off anyway. As I was waiting though, my eyes landed on that same graveyard where Fisher's gravestone was. It was pretty far from the school - I only really managed to see the sign.
I glanced behind me to see if Nix was in view, only to turn back in disappointment that he wasn't there at all. I sighed and rested my chin oh my hand, staring off at the area around that graveyard. It was then I heard a buzz from my bag; a notification from my phone.
I reached in my bag and pulled out my phone to see a message from Nix, sent just now.
“hey dude, you gotta go yourself today man,, got called to the office :(”
“hope you get expelled for the trouble you're in <3”
“fuck you”
I just smiled to myself before putting my phone away. As cocky as I was being though, I hope he isn't in too much trouble..
I got up, exhaling before starting to walk off the long road to the apartment's. I get distracted pretty easily on this street. There's usually a ton of salesmen, markets, shops, or garage sales that catch my attention. Though, all of them rarely have anything interesting to sell. Just some old junk that stopped working long ago.
On my path, I did walk past the graveyard. I thought twice before smartly deciding to not go back just to see his grave.
Well, maybe the gearboy could work there? Sal's ghost - I could try to do the same thing I did with Larry but.. I didn't have it on me. I just sighed out of disappointment, though not entirely. Not like I wasn't free tonight. I continued to walk about 8-9 steps ahead of it's gates before I heard it creak open behind me.
I instinctively turned my head around to see a blond guy, walking the opposite direction I was walking in, his back facing me. I quickly recognized him as Travis, mostly cause of his purple bag, and purple sweater - and a purple clip he wore at his sleeve 24/7..
“Travis?” I spoke out, mostly as a question.
Almost immediately, it seemed as if he took a sigh before finally turning around to look at me. Seems like he didn't want to be seen by me..
He stood there, silently, having that same annoyed look he always had at school, his right eye completely clouded. He was waiting for a response, my response.
“Uhm — what.. were you doing here?” I asked, with fear in my voice. I heard a lot about him and what he did over the years he's been at the school. Even though he did say we were friends, we never talked after that incident at all. I guess you could blame my fear for that.
“.. I was mourning for someone.” he merely replied. I mean - obviously Xavier, anyone would be there to mourn!
“Oh - right..” I uttered out of my mouth. He just shrugged to himself before continuing to walk away. Almost right then, I remembered one thing. There wasn't anyone by the name “Phelps” in that graveyard. So he definitely was mourning someone else. Someone who's.. not related to him at all.
“HEY!” I instinctively screamed out at him, causing him to snap his head back, startled by my yelling. I almost regretted calling out to him I mean - why would he mourn for a killer?? But, I still wanted to know.
“You weren't mourning for just anyone, were you?” I asked him, my head slightly tilting to the side. “Was it Sal?”
Travis seemed to be taken aback by my question, blinking a couple of times as I could tell he was trying to come up with an answer right then and there. It was Sal. He went to see his graveyard.
“It was?” I asked him again. Travis just stared at me with wide eyes, almost as if I said the world's biggest secret to him. A few second later though, he suddenly started speed-walking towards me. I almost tripped trying to step back by how fact he was coming at me before he took ahold of my arms tightly - as if he was bound to break them if he held on any tighter.
“Who told you about him?” he quickly asked me. I just cowardly answered his question in fear he might do something if I answered any later,
“M-My friend told me—”
“For how long??”
“I don't know just- ever since I arrived here?”
Travis looked almost puzzled, looking down at the ground as if he was deciding what to do next. Well, I'm fucked.
I watched his expression switch from thought to realization. He slipped his bag off of his shoulder before unzipping it and pulling out two thick, ring-binded notebooks and handing them to me. Well, forced me anyway; taking my arm while placing the notebooks on my chest and putting my arm over them,
“Take this with you. Try to read all of it today, skip tomorrow if you need to. I'll excuse you tomorrow.” he told me, this time speaking much calmer than before. “Don't tell anyone, of these notebooks.”. I looked at the notebooks and then at him with pure confusion on my face.
“Okay sure but, what's even in it??” I asked, reasonably curious. He just sighed looking at the notebooks and them at me.
“.. I can't say here. If you have any questions, come to the ministry this Sunday.” he instructed me again while picking his bag up and, without letting me speak, speed-walked away to the direction he was headed off to.
I glanced down at the notebooks. Huh.. what an interesting encounter. I flipped open the cover back to back to see if there was any summary of the entire notebook, which there was. Something that really made me question everything.
