Rain

Even before he joined, you knew there was something different about him.

On the battlefield, he talked to his mini con Swindle without harshness or malcontent. He often looked as he was ether wanting to fit in, or to stand out above the rest. You could tell he was waiting to feel respected. Even though he was the enemy, you slightly felt regret for him. It seems his other Decepticons were always singling him out in particular.

And that couldn't be more true than here.

Starscream may be a fool in thinking mini-cons were just pawns, but when he called out for his fellow comrades, your heart sank.

They were gone. They left him there.

It was kinda sad actually. What made you frown more was the other Autobots starting to make fun of his situation.

You heard him speak in the truest voice you've heard of him yet.

"You're lying."

He sounded hurt.

He began to sound more desperate, and flew into the sky, calling out to his comrades, which were nowhere on the battlefield. It sounded like he was in major distress and you began to worry for the 'Con.

Optimus got the transmission that the base was being attacked, and the Autobots retreated.

You would have gone with them, but you reasoned the base may no longer be safe.

______________

The rain was falling hard, and you were wearing a hoodie, standing under a tree of the forest.

You suddenly heard his cries again, and looked up. He was desperately charging towards the retreating Optimus Prime, but it was in vain. He screeched to a halt.

He looked up to the storm, and screamed in agony.

"Why have you abandoned me Megatron?! Why?! Why?! WHY?!!!"

That outcry shattered your heart. He didn't deserve this, none of this. No matter if he was a Decepticon or not.

Starscream suddenly felt lightheaded, and he fell backwards onto the ground, letting go of the star saber and his sword, shaking the clearing around him.

You gasped. You knew he was in distress, and now you had to do something. He was having a breakdown. You inhaled, and ran out from the tree and into the clearing, until you stopped. You weren't too far from Starscream, but he didn't notice anyone there. You suddenly heard crying.

He was crying.

Your pupils dilated slightly. Your right hand went to your heart, and tightened into a ball. You could feel his emotion, and your eyes started to water.

All this pain, it was finally showing itself.

You gulped, and slowly walked over to him.

He had his optics closed, and his sorrow covered up the sound of your footsteps. For a second he thought someone was with him, but he was too upset to dwell on the noise.

The star saber separated and the 3 mini cons stared at Starscream with surprise, though you normally couldn't tell. They suddenly saw you on the other side of him, and were confused.

You looked to them, then back at Starscream. You inhaled again, and settled a hand on his arm.

The touch made him open his optics. He was staring up at the sky, surprised.

That touch made him feel comfortable, and he began to cry more, feeling a sense of comfort. He shut his optics again.

You were relieved he didn't attack you, but you still felt upset at his upset. Out of habit, you hugged his arm, wanting to give him this comfort he so needed. What surprised you was that he showed no resistance. In fact, his arm shifted so it could get a better hug.

He wanted to feel okay.

His body shifted, and his other arm went around your back, arms pulling you close to his neck. You would have been flustered if not for the situation. His action really surprised you, but you gave him sympathy and continued to hug his arm warmly as he cried.

He didn't care what or who was hugging him, nor whom he was hugging. He needed it, and luckily you were very good at hugs.

The air defense team was astonished, but quickly understood. They knew all too well the kindness and care of human beings. They didn't join in though, watching the scene play out was very intriguing to them. At this point you were soaked with the rain, but you didn't care.

Starscream's cries calmed, and his tears (water or lubricant) fell down with the rain. He was going to see what was giving him this much safety, this much sympathy.

You opened your eyes to him just as he opened his optics to you.

His optics shown shock and child-like wonderment. You blinked, anticipating a negative reaction.

But no.

"You." He whispered in astonishment. It felt like a dream.

You inhaled and exhaled slowly, nodding at the same speed.

He let his other arm, shaking, fall away from you and you quickly let go of his arm, taking a few steps away, nervous. He didn't look as if he was going to do anything.

Starscream stared at you for a few more seconds, before turning at a snails pace to his backside on the ground again.

It looked like the rain was rusting his joints out and you wondered how long you were hugging each other. You suddenly were aware that you were completely wet, even under your hoodie.

You noted his sword in front of you and stepped over it, once again reaching out a hand to put on him. You placed this hand on his servo.

"Can you move?"

This was the first breaking of the sound of rain, but he didn't know if he wanted to speak.

Starscream gave out a low rumbling sound, signaling no; it was hard to move.

Somehow however, your touch was giving him the strength to slowly sit up. When he finally did, he noticed the star saber mini cons staring at him. His optic shields lowered slightly, and the mini cons combined back into the sword. Starscream didn't ask them and wasn't going to, but they did anyways. He then looked over to you.

He saw your hand on his servo, and you gazed up to him.

He pulled his servo away harshly, and into his lap. You folded your hands behind your back and looked down.

"Sorry."

This sorry was meant for more than your hand.

Starscream knew so too.

He looked behind you to see his sword.

You also looked behind to gaze at it. You walked over to it, and tried to pick it up for him. He slowly stood, grabbing the Star Saber. You were still struggling to pick up his sword when he walked over. You watched him as he picked up the sword from you, and put his wing back in its place.

You both stared at each other for a long moment.

It was clear from his faceplates that he had a strange feeling of appreciation. No one has ever comforted him before and he didn't know how to respond. Nor did he want to.

You knew him just enough that he wouldn't respond emotionally.

You smiled softly with care and worry. "Please, be careful."

He shut his optics in response, then opened them to the sky.

Very janky, he transformed and slowly flew off to the moon. He thought about you a lot as he made his journey back.

You walked out of the clearing and used the Autobots' transworp field to get back to base.

Their fight there was over, but you learned of the damage done to Smokescreen. You comforted your friends, but did not say a word about what happened to you. You changed clothes and a new day came. This day would yield more surprises for you.
