November 25th, she was 12 and I was 14.
"Ren!!!!"
I woke up when I heard someone yelling my name. Quickly, I stood up and got out of my room, looking all alert.
"Ren!!!!"
Wait, that's Gabrielle! I ran to her room but walked back downstairs to get an umbrella, protection if there's a housebreaker or a spider, you may not know. Walking back upstairs, I opened her door. I saw our 5 year old little brother Allen in there. "What's going on here?" I asked looking at him.
"I dunno. I just heard her scream." He said rubbing his eyes. He might have been woken by her sister too.
"What's wrong Gabrielle?" I asked her and signalled my little bro that I got this. "What's wrong Gabrielle?" I repeated when Allen got out. She looked so horrified. I examined her room, there's no housebreaker nor spider. What the hell happened?
She looked at her bed. I looked at it and saw a red kind of browny substance. "What is that?" I asked looking at her, waiting for her to answer but she looks so embarrassed. Then I looked at the stain in her bed again. What is that? I looked at her and saw her in her t-shirt and undies only.
"Wait.." Then I understand what's the stain is. "You have your first period." I said as she shrugged her shoulders, I guess she's not sure herself.
"Go to the bathroom get some clean underwear and wait for me there." I said then got out of her room.
I walked in my room and got some pads in one of the drawers. When I opened the bathroom door I saw her leaning in the black granite sink.
That was the day she first got her period. She was so worried and terrified. I told her dont be and I went to that stage too. "I hate being a girl." She said, and I can't help but laugh at her.

That night we went to our rooftop and layed there. It was our way of bonding. Just looking at the night sky, feeling the cold air hugged our body.
"It feels so weird." She said a little annoyed.
"I know. But you're going to get used to it aftersometime." I said.
"I wish that time will be now and I wanted to be a boy! It seems that being a boy can be fun. You know? They dont have to wear irritating bras and napkins."
"Well do you want to get circumcised?" I asked chuckling.
"Ew, no."
I only laughed in response at her silliness.
And after that it was silent.
"There's no stars." She said after a few minutes, breaking the soothing silence.
"It's because the clouds hid them."
She shook her head "No..." I looked at her questioningly as she looked back at me and smiled. "It's because they're afraid."
"Afraid of what?" I asked, knitting my eyebrows in confusion.
"Their afraid of the truth.." She said quietly looking back at the nightsky.
"What are you talking about.? Are you high?"
She laughed "Nothing. I think this period thingy got me saying weird stuff."
What does she mean? Afraid of the truth? I know it wasn't just nothing and I was so confused but I let it go. If she wanted to say it, she would.
"Hey, Gabrielle."
"Yeah sis?" She asked still looking at the sky.
"I wanted to give you something." I said taking it out of my pocket. She turned her full attention to me, wondering.
I held it out and saw her surprised face. I grabbed her hand and gave it to her. In her hand is a white gold charm bracelet with my Mother's necklace pendant.
She looked at it then at me with still confusion written all over her face. "This is your mother's, I-I can't take it." She said then held it for me to take but I refused and smiled at her.
"I know. It's okay, I have it too." I said then showed her my mother's necklace around my neck with a new pendant.
At that she hesitated for a second but then didn't refused no more. She let me wear her the bracelet. She studied at it then smiled at me, I smiled back. "This is so beautiful. Thank you, Ren."
I know we we're still young back then but I knew myself that I'm in love with her all this years, especially when she became a teenager and started developing all those womanly curves. I did all I could to hide my feelings but I know for sure you can't keep secrets forever.
