I pull into the driveway and shift the car into park. I grab my stuff and unlock the door. I put my bag on the couch and go into the kitchen to grab a bag of chips. I turn on the light and I see my dad laying there with a knife in his stomach and two small holes in the side of his neck.
I scream and scramble for my phone in my back pocket. I dial 999 (the U.S 911) and tell them my dad was stabbed and he's not breathing I tell them my address and hang up. I grab a towel from the closet and put it around hit stomach and hold it there with one hand as I put pressure on his neck with the other.
I start to hear the sirens. I lock to the front door and unlock it then run back to my dad. The paramedics storm through the door and push me away from my dad. The ask me a bunch of questions while the work on him. I answer just as quickly as they ask. Another paramedic comes in with a stretcher. The two men helping my dad lift him up and put him on. I follow them outside and into the back of the ambulance.
The ride to the hospital and the few hours later are a blur. I finally come out of my trance when the nurse comes up to me to tell me the news.
"Miss Michelson?" The nurse asks me.
"Yes? That. Huh. Ya that's me." I reply. My voice a little shaky.
"Your father is stable, but he is in a coma. We are not sure if he will wake up or not. He lost a lot of blood so we have an IV in his arm to give him some. I'm so sorry."
"Thanks. It's not your fault. You did all you could, I imagine. Can I see him?"
"Sure. Just you though."
"It is just me."
The nurse takes me to his room then leaves to do her job elsewhere. I open the door and help that annoying beating of the heart monitor. I walk over to my dads bedside and take his hand.
"I love you dad. I need you. Please wake up."
I start to cry. I tend to cry a lot, but mostly because I'm frustrated. Who cries when they're frustrated? I sit down next to my dad on his bed and watch him sleep while tear just keep falling down my face. I don't know what to do. I've never been in a hospital. At least not that I remember. I was born in one, but that's the only time.
I get up to go find one of those really bad coffee machines. It's really late so there's barely anyone in the halls. I finally run into someone.
"Where can I get some coffee?"
"Down the hall a little then turn right. It should be right there." Says a familiar make voice.
I look up and Zach, my ex, is standing right in front of me. What's he doing here?
"Zach? What are you doing here?"
"Looking for you actually. Jennifer sent me. She said your in danger."
"Really? Tell Jennifer to go to hell! My dad is in the hospital because of her vampire ass."
"She says it wasn't her, and I believe her. I was with her at the time."
"She could've done it then went to you."
"Really Veronica? She didn't do it. She came with me to investigate what happened. She wanted to introduce us."
"Really? She didn't do this?"
"No V. She didn't."
"Don't call me that. We're not dating or friends anymore."
"Fine. Can we go? I'll get you a real cup of coffee."
"Fine. I don't want to be gone long. Who ever did this might come back to finish off the job."
