The two teens entered the restaurant, and were ushered to there booth. It was smaller and in the back of the building, but it still managed to be a window seat over looking a beautiful flower bed, lawn, and then parking lot.
Even though the view outside of the window wasn't much, Payton was silently happy for the view in case there was an awkward lull in the conversation. The table was nice too she noticed it had little menus for deserts and alcohol, salt and pepper shakers and other condiments, and a paper napkin dispenser. The actual menu itself was large and had about four pages there was a lot to choose from so she thought it best that she just stare at the menu until she figured out what she wanted. In order to avoid an uncomfortable confrontation with the boy across from her.
Simon sat down at the booth, and soon discovered that Payton was purposefully avoiding his gaze. He had never been on a date with someone who he had know before so he decided to follow Payton's example and read the menu. After a while though Simon felt he should start a conversation, although he soon found out that starting a conversation was much harder to do when put under pressure. "So, um." He cleared his throat, "Payton have you seen any good movies lately?"
Payton was suddenly in the position were she was to engage in conversation. Her mind went blank, she couldn't think of any movies that she'd seen recently. Searching for something anything to say she said. "Yeah... I saw pitch perfect 2."
"Care to elaborate on that?" Simon responded, His cool resurfacing.
Payton blushed, "Rude." Payton teased, "but yes I will, I saw it with some friends at the theater last week I liked it a lot. What about you any movies that you liked, that you've seen recently?"
"I have seen Fast and Furious 7, and Poltergeist. I saw then with some friends too."
After that they ordered there food. Payton tried to make sure that what she order wasn't out of Simons price range, but Simon insisted that she could get whatever she wanted. They chatted until there food came.
Simon had ordered a bacon cheeseburger with a side of fries. While Payton ordered chicken with a side salad. The conversation died down while they ate until Payton asked "why did you ask me out in this date?"
"I-I... Um, I really like you. Kinda have for a while it just took some time to get the courage to ask you out." Simon mumbled, "Why do you ask?"
"Well I've never been on a date before and I was really surprised when you ask me out because I didn't think you liked me back."
"Wait your telling me you have liked me for a while too?!" Simons mind was racing, could this mean that they could be a boyfriend and girlfriend? Would she be okay with that? Meanwhile Payton was amazed that she had finally told someone who she liked. She would have told her two friends at swim but she was sure that they would tease her relentlessly until the day she died.
Soon after the waiter have them the dessert menu both Simon and Payton got a milkshake and went back to there small talk until it was getting close to Payton's curfew. Simon payed for the meal and was glad they both bought inexpensive meals, although he wouldn't admit it to Payton. Next they got in the car and he then drove Her home.
They arrived at Payton's house 30 minutes before she had to be home, mainly because he wanted to make a good impression on her parents and also because he had be home by 9:30pm as well.
