Sonic had to slow down for a while after running for so long, but so quick. He stopped outside a water fountain while carrying you on his shoulders. "Ok, Y/N, I just need to get some water.." He said. The thought of water was making your mouth water, the longing taste of refreshment was the only thing to help you. "You okay, Y/N? You need some?" He asked. You were about to answer, but Sonic was already greedily slurping up the water in dehydration. You couldn't get a word out either, you needed to focus on breathing, even with a huge pain in your upper chest.
You started to get a bit light headed, it seemed like you were breathing a lot more rapidly due to you maybe bleeding internally from a broken rib. When Sonic suddenly jolted up after being refreshed, a sharp pain was suddenly in your chest, and you couldn't breathe. You started coughing and sputtering up blood, while also desperately trying to breath, but breathing only made you inhale blood. You started foaming pink bubbles at the mouth from a mix of mucus and blood, and Sonic knew something was wrong.
"Y/N? What the- OH MY GOD!" He slapped you on the back trying to expel any fluids from your respiratory system, but it only made it worse, and asphyxiated you. As the world got dark around you, Sonic was running as fast as he could, you knew he couldn't live with the fact he murdered his best friend's love.
You woke up in the emergency room with a tube down your throat, and a doctor zapping your heart trying to revive you. You tried to grab the tube and rip it out, but a doctor held your arms down while they were shouting at eachother, eventually, you were transported to a room and hooked up to an IV.
You were closing your eyes, muttering gibberish before a furry hand grabbed yours. You slowly opened your eyes to see Tails with a glare towards Sonic. A doctor was examining you and checking your pulse. "Ah, good. You're awake. Y/N? is it?" The doctor said. With a cough, you were able to sputter out the word "Yes.." "Ah, good, you went into respiratory distress after having blood flood your lungs from a broken rib perforating one." He said. "But don't worry, we were able to correct the bones and suck *most* of the blood out, some clots might still cough their way out, but you should be good within a couple of weeks." The doctor said. You let out a sigh, knowing why Tails was so cross with Sonic.
"How could you be so wreckless with her!? You were the one who nearly killed her!" Tails shouted as the doctor left the room. "Tails, I'm known for being so erratic, but-" Tails cut him off with eyes glowing red. "YOU KNEW SHE WAS HURT, BUT YOU COULDN'T LAND 5 SECONDS OF CAREFULLNESS." Tails screamed at Sonic. "Tails! I- I still got her here!" He said, giving a weak smile after. "Oh so you got here, that's the important part. As long as she was on life support after she got here everything would be fine! WELL THAT'S WRONG, THIS IS YOUR FAULT!!" Tails stomped with a nearly foaming mouth. "..Maybe if you stopped Eggman.." Sonic said in annoyance. Tails stopped for a moment, walking to Sonic. "So.. You're saying it's my fault..?" He asked. "..I guess I am-" Sonic couldn't stop before a firm blow was punched onto his jaw. "Tails!" You shouted.
Sonic coughed a bit before staring at Tails. "H-how.. How could I.. Sonic I'm so sorry!" Tails rushed to sonic and hugged him. "I didn't mean to hurt you! You just made me so.. So angry!" Sonic got up, and somehow patted Tails on the back. "I shouldn't have hurt her, I'm sorry.." Sonic said before walking out the the room with a deep breath.
