10 years earlier

Y/N rested in her bed in the Slytherin common room. She glared up at the faded ceiling tapestry as she traced her fingers over her belly under her shirt, feeling the unfamiliar chain around her waist. Her mind shifted to the events the night before. How her and Sebastian had made a blood pact, to make sure they never betrayed each other. How... She was his now and he hers.

Y/N could feel her heart beat faster at the thought. She loved him. But what would she know? She was only 16. They hadn't even kissed and now she was bound to him. What if they ended up in love with someone else? Would that count as betrayal? Her head was spinning with thoughts as she felt a lump form in her guts, threatening to spill.

Before she could think further she rushed out and into the bathroom, spilling her guts out in the toilet. No, she was being silly. Ofc she loved Sebastian. You just know these things... right?

A racket could be heard from outside and Y/N quickly washed her face before she ran out to the common room living quarters. Students were chattering loudly as they all rushed up the stairs.

Y/N grabbed a bypassing third year and asked her. «What's going on, where is everyone heading?»

«Apparently there is a student who's been expelled! And he is being fetched by the Ministry! They are sending him to Azkaban!» The third-year chirped in an overly-excited voice. Had it not been for the cold wave that flushed down Y/N's neck rendering her frozen in one spot as the third year ran after the other students she would have knocked her flat out.

Sebastian.

In the blink of an instant, all doubt Y/N had that she truly loved Sebastian vanished as she ran through the other students in hope that the rumors were lies. The thought of living without him was suffocating her as she pushed the other students out of her way with no regard for their well-being. «MOVE, FUCKING MOVE!» she shrieked as she finally made it to the front of the crowd.

And there it was. The sight that she had dreaded. Sebastian was walking between two Aurors in the front and two in the back. A purple chain spell held his wrists tied. Y/N didn't stop to think before she jolted out into the path behind them.

«Sebastian!» She creamed in desperation.

Sebastian stopped and turned around. His eyes filled with fear as they met with hers. Without thinking, Y/N fumbled at her wand and was about to raise it at the Aurors before Professor Sharp jumped in behind her, locking his arms around her, making her unable to move. She screamed and twisted as the Professor's grip pulled her away from the boy she loved. Y/N could catch a glimpse of Sebastian before she was pulled away, his eyes shifting from desperation and fear to complete darkness and fury. And then he was gone...

The next few weeks were hell... Everyone was talking about Sebastian and saying the most horrible things about him. Mostly rubbish, of course. Y/N was currently in detention because she sent a sixth year to the infirmary after he talked shit about Sebastian.

Ominis had been a good support though. He claims he hasn't a clue who could have turned Sebastian in, nor does Anne. Y/N found it a bit odd and wanted to investigate, but they always shut her down when she brought it up. Ominis and Anne had pitched the idea to Y/N that they would turn Sebastian in themselves, but Y/N had convinced them otherwise. Or at least so she thought. But it's nice to have them there. Y/N needed friends she could trust right now...

Months passed and Y/N found it easier to deal with Sebastian being gone. Anne was back at school now and was one year behind, since she had to catch up. She was a skilled witch though, so it was really no issue for her.

Y/N had shown Anne and Ominis her room of requirement. Anne especially took keen interest in her vivariums and was constantly nagging Y/N to visit her, mostly to pet her Niffler, Archie.

Ominis and Y/N had grown exceptionally close since Sebastian was caught. Almost as close as Sebastian and Y/N themselves. He was a solid comfort and had been there to support her more times than she could count. Especially during her nightmares which had gotten so bad that the other student in her room had complained to Professor Weasley. Weasley, being the angel she was, had then suggested Y/N conjure a bed in her room of requirement. And surely enough, the room expanded to a bedroom the next time Y/N had entered.

Ominis stayed there sometimes. Professor Weasley of course didn't know that. Y/N just felt safe with him. She trusted him, even though her feelings for him were purely based on friendship, she caught herself thinking of him as the perfect man to spend her life with. He never made a move on her, and it was not saying that Y/N didn't want to, but she couldn't dare. The Blood Pact was highly unstable and based around her current mindset and mood. It could try to kill her if she tried to forget about Sebastian to be with someone else, especially his best friend, so she never told anyone about it. Not even Ominis or Anne.

The years passed and Y/N reached her final year at Hogwarts. Everyone was talking about their future plans. Some wanted to be professors, some Aurors, some beast tamers. Y/N had no clue, there was a time where she could have played with the idea of herself as an Auror, but... That changed when Sebastian was sent to Azkaban.

Ominis, however, had just received an offer to the Auror training program. It was incredible. He was to be the youngest ever Auror in history. Y/N was very thrilled for him, however, she did find it a bit odd that he had been offered a position when the Auror training program was so selective. And most witches and wizards had to apply to get in.

A week later Y/N had struggled to fall asleep in her common room bed and was heading to her room of requirement to sleep there. On her way she heard voices from the fireplace area in the Slytherin common rooms and decided to investigate. Casting a disillusionment charm on herself she sneaked her way over to eavesdrop on the two students having a suspiciously quiet conversation at 2AM on a school night.

It was Ominis and Anne.

«She deserves to know...» Ominis' voice whispered sharply. Almost hissing at the girl.

«I know she does, but she won't understand and it's dangerous. She'll be furious that she had no say in the decision». Anne was softer, more gathered. Quite different from her twin brother who always seemed to let his emotions get the better of him.

«And what of this offer that I have received? I don't want to be an Auror, they are trying to control me, Anne!»

«They are, and you don't have a choice other than to comply... Unless you want to go through with the option we tried to avoid by turning in Sebastian.» Anne swallowed a lump in her throat at the mentioning of her brother's name.

«No... I can never go through with that...» Ominis said firmly through a clenched jaw.

Y/N's blood ran cold as she realized. Ominis and Anne turned Sebastian in... For two years she thought it was an anonymous villager or something from Feldcroft. But it was... Her friends. She was going to be sick, and paced out of the common room still concealed by her spell.

How could they? She clenched her chest as she entered her room of requirements. Her back slammed to the wall behind her and she sobbed chokingly as she slid to the floor. Her sobs turned to screams as she felt the betrayal of her two closest friends burning in her heart.
