Demi and Selena:

"So... How have you been?" Demi's words came out of her mouth awkwardly and caused the tension in the room to increase even more. Selena looked up from the tea Joe had made her and uncrossed her legs, crossed them again, then answered with a simple, "I've been good." More silence followed her answer and no one seemed to know what to say. Joe had left the room in an attempt to make things more comfortable, though still Selena was silent. After what seemed like ages Selena suddenly put down her tea and stated, "Demi. I miss you. I miss the time we used to spend together, I miss being able to come over to your house all the time, I miss hanging out in your room and," she paused, and Demi looked up at her, knowing what she wanted to say and hoping she wouldn't in case someone else was listening,

"I just miss being your best friend is all." Demi didn't know how to respond, she was still mad at Selena, for leaving her in her time of need. But there was a part of her that knew Selena wasn't the only one to blame, she knew she had pushed her away, and that only made her feel worse. A thick lump began to form in the back of her throat, anfd she feared that she might start bawling if she said anything, so she looked down again, and Selena continued.

"And... I'm sorry, for doing what I did. And, I'm sorry for what happened last month." At this Demi was completely taken aback, how did Selena know? "Miley called," she said quietly, as if reading Demi's mind. Finally she found words and responded to her former best friend,

"You left me, Selena. You left me when I really needed you." It was harsh, she knew. But Selena had broken her heart, and she needed to understand that. Tears began to form in Demi's eyes as she continued, "We were supposed to be best friends. I... I loved you." Her voiced cracked at the end of her sentence, those words meant more now than they ever had before. Selena couldn't speak, her throat felt dry and her stomach felt as though a heavy rock was sitting at the bottom of it. The silence left by Demi's last words was suffocating, and eventually Selena couldn't handle being in that place anymore. She got up and walked swiftly to the door, shutting it loudly on her way out. Demi began bawling her eyes out, not completely knowing why she was crying that hard. Joe sprinted to Demi's side and cradled her in his arms, kissing the top of her head and attempting to calm her down. However, outside there was no one to help Selena. She sat in her car and began crying even harder than Demi was, if that was even possible. I've ruined it, I've ruined everything. She kept thinking over and over again. She sat outside of Demi's apartment for a good thirty minutes before she could calm down enough to drive. Demi heard the dull roar of Selena's car starting, and then heard it fade away as she spead off into the distance. Nothing would change what happened between them, the heart of their friendship had been broken, and Demi didn't think there was a way that it could be fixed.

Selena:

Selena sat in her room with all the shades closed. Her head felt as though it were going to explode and her eyes were sore and red from her crying. Streaks of mascara were smeared across her treaks, long since dried from her afternoon breakdown. The last week had gone this way; she'd wake up feeling good and forgetful of her experience with Demi, but soon she would lose steam and by five o'clock she would sit down and cry for hours, eventually wearing herself out enough to fall asleep. Tonight was different however, she had cried for only an hour, it was as if she was just running out of tears, which she felt meant that it was time to move on. She stood up from her position in her warm bed and unlocked the first drawer of her desk. Crumpled up and torn papers were stuffed inside, and she pulled them out carefully. These letters were the most important things she owned. She began reading, Dear Sel...

Demi:

Demi walked to her huge windows and spread the curtains apart, letting the setting sun shine through and lighten up each area of the kitchen and living room. She smiled at the colors the sky created, beautiful shades of orange and pink all mixing together into  a bright, but diminishing, sun. She had thought about Selena a lot in the last week, both happy and sad at the same time, though she didn't exactly understand how that could be. She looked at her phone and saw that she had no  calls, Strange, she thought to herself, usually she calls me by now. It had been the same for the past couple of days, around five o'clock Demi would always receive a call from Selena, usually it was only one ring, and then Selena would hang up. It made Demi feel guilty about their fight, she knew it was partly her fault that their friendship had been broken, and she wanted to forgive Selena so badly. She would return that call soon, she decided in that moment, she would make things right. Demi looked up as Joe walked into the room, she smiled at him and he threw his arms around her, pulling her into his warm chest.

"So Dems..."

"So Joe..." She responded in fake mockery. She looked up at him and felt his rough lips brush across hers. She loved him more than she even knew was possible, and she was completely confident that he felt the same way about her. She moved her hands down his muscular arms and grabbed his hands, looking into his deep brown eyes, noticing the gold and hazels specks that were spread throughout his irises. He put his hand in his back pocket and pulled out some sort of object. Demi was completely confused, what was he doing?

Selena:

I think I'm going to marry Joe. I know, I know, I'm only 16 but.. I don't know Sel! He's just the most amazing guy... He'll never replace you in my heart, however :) You have that best friend spot taken up. Selena smiled sadly at the memories this letter brought back. What she wouldn't give to go back. She had basically ruined their whole friendship in just one night, but she had a sudden faith that this would work out somehow, it had too. She opened up the shades and let the setting sun shine onto her face, warming up her whole body. And in that moment, for the first time in a while, Selena really felt happy.

Demi:

Demi watched in panic and excitement as Joe knelt down on his knee. He looked up at her, the light playing off his eyes creating an actual twinkle that accented the huge smile on his face. For some reason Demi would never understand, tears began streaming down her face uncontrollably. She wiped them away hurriedly, slightly embarrassed.

"Demi," Joe began. All she could respond with was a quiet "Uh huh"; her hands were literally shaking when Joe took them in his. "I love you more than anything else in the world. We've been through so much together, we basically saw each other become adults. We've accomplished a lot together, we've laughed and cried, I know I can trust you with anything. There's no one else I'd rather be with for the rest of my life. So Demi..." She let out an involuntary squeal when he repeated her name, causing him to grin widely. "Will you marry me?"
