The next day I didn't have any classes or work. Which, made for a perfect opportunity to get to know Zoey a bit more. At least that was the plan we made last night.
I absolutely did not expect for her to wake me up at 7 am on my day off.
"Alison! Hurry up! Get your ass up!" She yelled.
I groaned in response. "Fuck off. It's my free day. Why are you trying to wake me up so early?"
"Because, I'm bored!" She whined.
"Do you not sleep?"
"No."
"Then you don't understand how cruel you're being right now." I rubbed the sleep out of my eyes and reluctantly got up. Running my fingers through my hair, I looked over at her to see her biting her lip.
"What?" I asked.
"Nothing." She said with a smile and immediately left the room.
As I was eating my breakfast, Zoey did nothing but stare at me.
"Can you not watch me while I eat?"
"Sorry, I just realized what you meant earlier. You look dead right now."
I glared at her. "Thanks to you."
"You're welcome!" She said cheekily.
"Hey, so since you're not a ghost, does that mean you were never really human?"
She shook her head. "Nope. Also thanks for acknowledging I'm not a ghost."
"Eh, I'm still gonna refer to you as that." Zoey glared at me as I finished up my food. "What? Unless you have a better term, that's what I'm going with."
She slumped in defeat. "How would you like it if I referred to you as a human?"
I laughed. "Well, that's what I am, so do as you please."
Zoey pouted, knowing I didn't react the way she wanted."Why are you so mean?" She whined.
"What do you mean?" I laughed again at her child like behavior.
"Do you act like this with that one guy?"
"First of all he has a name, and no because he doesn't provoke me like you do." I may have lied a bit. I do playfully banter with Colby sometimes as well, but she doesn't need to know that.
"What? How do I provoke you?"
I raised my brow in response.
"Well, to the point of you calling me a ghost at least."
I shrugged. "I just like messing with you. Why are we even arguing about this? Does it really bother you?"
She pouted. "No, I guess not."
"If it really does bother you I'll stop." I said seriously.
She stared at me for a moment, and I noticed her cheeks turn pink.
"You want me to call you Angel instead?"
Her cheeks turned darker. "Shut up! I'd rather be a ghost." She mumbled.
I smiled. "Okay, then. Don't say I didn't give you a chance."
"At least that way I'd be able to haunt you." She mumbled again.
"You already haunt me."
"In your dreams, right?" She smiled once again.
"Hey, don't try and turn this around on me." I got up and motioned for her to follow. "Let's go to the living room."
After that initial conversation we went back to just talking about random things.
"Are there others like you?" I asked.
"Not that I'm aware of."
"Wait. How do you even have an age if you were never born?"
She shrugged. "I have no idea. I just knew I guess."
"Do you remember your first day, I don't know, existing?"
"Yeah, I mean I just kind of showed up here one day. I'm not sure how or why."
"Were you ever like younger? Like, could you tell from your appearance? Do you even know what you look like?"
She nodded slowly. "I can see myself in mirrors, but I've never noticed anything about myself change age wise. I'm definitely 19 though. That and my name were programmed into my brain since I got here."
"Well, that's comforting. Anyway, I'm assuming you've never really expericed much of the world?"
She shook her head. "I can't leave this apartment. So, I've only ever seen or heard about things from the people who have lived here."
"You can watch tv though, right?"
She nodded. "I'd watch some shows when you had the tv on."
"Alright, you wanna try picking out a show?"
"Really?" Her eyes gleamed in excitement.
"Yeah, sure."
I turned on the tv and started scrolling through the options.
"What about that one?" She asked pointing to a random show.
"Okay. I haven't heard about it, so why not?" I shrugged.
Not even half way into the show there was a sex scene. It wasn't a quick one either.
"Okay! You are officially demoted from ever choosing a show." I said as I turned the tv off.
"Wha- How was I supposed to know?!" I looked over and to my non-surprise she was blushing, but then again so was I. "Technically, I've seen you watch shows with these kinds of scenes."
"One, I didn't know you were watching them as well. Two, it's weird when you watch it with someone! At least someone you don't know too well."
There was a moment of silence.
"So, um. This is Netflix right?"
I nodded.
"So, are we Netflix and chilling right now?"
I automatically began choking on air. "What? No- Do you know what that means?"
"What? I was just trying to change the conversation! And yeah, aren't we doing that?"
I couldn't help but laugh. "You really didn't change it at all. That's what people say when they want to fuck."
Her eyes widened. "Really? What's that got to do with Netflix?"
"Well, initially you'd start out watching Netflix, then you know. Although, I'm sure most people skip the Netflix part all together."
Another moment of silence was made.
"Have you-."
"Don't finish that sentence." I interrupted.
