Rapunzel's Tangled Adventure (rewrite)

This land will be their graveyard

Eugene and Rapunzel stumbled through the hallway towards their chambers after bringing Cassandra to her bed.

'I-I'm sorry. I didn't want this to happen. I didn't know this would happen.' Eugene burst out in tears. Rapunzel put her hand on his shoulder.

'I know. But why?' Rapunzel's voice broke. 'That's the only thing I don't understand, Eugene. Why would you do that? You lied straight into my face! What did he do to you to make you do it? Why didn't you come to me!' Rapunzel looked him straight in the eyes, her head shaking.

'Because...' Eugene looked away and shook his head. His breath faltered.

'Eugene, I don't care. I! Don't! Care! But I don't want any more lies!' Her tears burned his heart.

'I'm the one who stole your mothers ring.' He looked her in the eyes again.

'That's it?'

'She refused to give the ring when we ambushed her carriage. She fought back and... and I smashed her. Knock out. ' Rapunzel stared at him in disbelief.

'Why would you do that?' she stuttered.

'The guards were coming, there was no time. I panicked. I know it was wrong. I would never do something like that ever again, but... I can't change it! Everyday I wish I could start over, but I can't and I hate it!' Eugene leaned against the wall to catch his breath. 'And if your parents find out it was me, they will banish me. That's the whole fucking reason I helped Lance. He blackmailed me.'

Eugene took a deep breath and whipped his tears. He took a ring out of his pocket. 'This is the ring. Lance carried it with him. I will come clean to your mom. I can't carry these lies with me much longer if I have to stare into your eyes everyday.'

Rapunzel shook her head. 'No, don't. You changed, but I don't know if dad will think the same about it.'

Eugene's voice broke. 'I'm sorry.' He walked towards her parents room.

'Eugene, please stop!' Rapunzel cried. She clamped onto him.

'I have to do this. I don't wanna lie anymore. Lance will tell the guards anyway. It's better if she hears it from me.' He carefully took her hands off him.

'Stop! In the middle of the night? Are you crazy!' Rapunzel cried, desperately looking for reasons to stop him.

'They have already been awakened by the guards. That it's night is the least crazy thing about this situation.'

The king and queen walked through the doorway. Their faces froze when they saw Eugene and Rapunzel's panic.

'My baby, are you alright?' the queen asked as she ran towards her daughter to give her a hug.

'We're fine.' Eugene answered. 'I'm sorry, but there is something I must tell you.' Eugene couldn't stop his voice from shaking.

'Eugene, don't!' Rapunzel looked over her shoulder and looked into his eyes. 'Please don't.'

'I'm the one who stole your ring.'

'You?' the queen yelled with Rapunzel in her arms. 'What? How? Do you have any idea how traumatizing that day was for me! But...'

'You lied to us. You should be executed, but I'll show mercy only because you brought our daughter back. You are banished.' King Fredric interrupted her. Time froze. Finally he had a home and now all of it got torn away.

'Fredric...' the queen said.

'No, he is not!' Rapunzel shouted as she pulled away from her mom.

'Yes he is! You keep your mouth shut!' Her dad yelled.
