meredith has her first meeting with joe today to help him regain muscle strength in his knee. to say she is nervous is an understatement. this is going to be her first time talking to joe alone since she first saw him a few days ago.

"are you 100% certain that it's the same guy from that summer?" ella asks on a facetime call with meredith.

"i am 1,000% sure ella. first of all, i would never forget his name. second of all, he looks the exact same" meredith rants.

"just checking" ella smiles. "so when you saw him again was it love at first sight again?"

"i don't know if i can answer that" meredith goes quiet.

"what? why?" ella questions.

"because.." meredith sighs. "i don't think i ever stopped loving him"

"that's news to me" ella squeals with excitement.

"but it's been two years since i saw him last. things could be completely different." meredith explains.

"yeah, but you'll never know if you never try, right?" ella states.

"my mom used to say that all the time" meredith smiles. "what if joe was right? what if that was where our story ended? maybe it's not written in the stars, that fate brings us back together."

"don't think like that, please? you were put back into joe burrow's life for a reason. now it's your job to figure out what that specific reason is ok? your story isn't going to just end there." ella says.

"oh shit, i need to leave or i'm going to be late for my meeting with joe. thank you so much for your advice ell. i love you so so much" meredith blows a kiss into the phone.

"anytime mer. i love you too" ella hangs up and meredith is out the door and on her way to see joe.

meredith ended up making it to the facility on time. she even had some extra time to set up some exercises for joe. she is in the middle of setting up an exercise when she hears the door open and then close. she turns around and faces joe. she remembers every detail of his face from that final night on the beach.

"what are you smiling about?" joe asks. meredith must have started smiling when she was thinking back to the distant memory that felt so long ago but at the same time felt like it was yesterday.

"nothing, i'm just excited you're here" she answers. joe walks into the room and gets closer to where meredith is standing.

"you look, wow" he states.

"is that supposed to be a good thing or a bad thing?" she laughs.

"it's a good thing. it's just that you look the same, only you look even more beautiful now than you looked then" joe smiles.

"thanks" she blushes. "so, are you ready for some exercises?"

"yep," he says popping the 'p'.
