seven. eggs

Chandler's anxiety about Trevor being in her apartment causes her to get up way earlier than she needed to. She's instantly trying to clean, not wanting him to see the mess that is her apartment and life. It doesn't get very clean because then she's panicking about if she has enough eggs (she doesn't, she has to go borrow some from her neighbor who is an ER nurse and thankfully awake before his shift and very amused at his neighbor's antics). By the time she's figured out what she's putting in the omelettes, Trevor is knocking on her door and she hasn't changed out of her pajamas yet. She winces, looking around her chaotic apartment before going to greet him. He's got a smile on his face when the door swings open and comes face to face with the brunette beauty. To her horror, the door across the hall opens too so that her now annoying (and no longer life saving) neighbor can spot who she's trying to impress.

"Good morning, Trevor," she says softly, then glares at Nate over his shoulder. "Go away, Nate!"

"I just wanna see who has you being so domestic and panicky this early in the morning," he teases, causing Trevor to glance over his shoulder and smile at the slightly older man. "Hey, man. I'm Nate. I've been her neighbor for two years. And not once has she knocked on my door at 4:00 in the morning to borrow eggs, so I'm impressed."

"Hey," he replies, holding out his free hand to shake her neighbor's hand. "I'm Trevor. And that sounds like Chan."

"Okay, kids, be safe! Use condoms! Wren doesn't need any siblings."

"Nate!" she exclaims, cheeks burning. "Go do your job or something, leave us alone."

He laughs, closing his door after waving to the both of them. Trevor looks back down to her in amusement.

"He's something."

"He's embarrassing is what he is. Come in," she moved out of the way and gestures into the apartment.

And so he steps into her apartment, into her world, and she watches as his gaze sweeps around the room to take in everything in his sight. Toys are everywhere, dirty clothes (both hers and Wren's) are strewn about the place, and there's a whole stack of her books she's reading for fun on the coffee table. Numerous pairs of shoes are piled next to the door, her set of keys hanging from one of two hooks. Without saying a word in judgement, he moves closer to her and kisses her forehead before hanging his keys from the other hook. She watches greedily as he seems to meld right into the mess, accepting that her home is just as messy as her life.

"Kitchen is this way," she says, voice soft so she's not loud enough to wake up her daughter.

He follows her to the only room that seems to have the chaos contained, no dirty dishes piled up or random food stashed anywhere on the counters. Just a spread of all the stuff he assumes she plans on using to make their breakfast with. He puts the tray of drinks and bag from McDonald's down on the counter, then turns to look at her.

"You had to borrow eggs from your neighbor?" he asks, keeping his voice low as well.

She blushes again, looking away from him, "Maybe. I realized I had like four eggs and panicked."

"You could've called me and had me grab breakfast, Chan. You didn't have to borrow eggs from your neighbor. Or panic, like I assume you did since you asked him for eggs almost half an hour ago."

"You were already buying coffee," she says, eyes widening as he moves closer to her. "I just... I know my apartment is a mess and I'm a mess and I didn't want to call you to say I didn't have enough eggs to make breakfast. I didn't want to disappoint you anymore than I already have."
