twenty. sweet innocent summer child
Thanks to her having to drop Wren off with Lydia and Teddy, as well as him having to meet the other people at the house they're all renting together, Chandler and Trevor have to drive to the music festival separately. He arrives before her, unloading all of their bags and claiming a room. As time goes on while she does her own thing before joining him, he befriends all the people that are also sharing the house with them other than an old friend and Jamie, though the unattached girls quickly start flirting with him and trying to impress him, despite the fact that he and Jamie had been discussing Chandler joining them later on in the evening. One of the blondes in particular, one he's pretty sure he follows on Instagram, doesn't seem to catch the fact that he's having a girl join him and that he isn't interested in her whatsoever. Eventually, he gets to the point where he just wants to go listen to some of the music that's going on instead of wasting time at the house waiting for Chandler. She encourages him to go ahead and do so, knowing Jamie will meet her at the house and help her out, wanting him to be able to escape the unwanted advances.
Once she's finally on the way after a dramatic parting from Wren who was very jealous that her mom was spending the whole weekend with Trevor, she starts speeding her way towards the music festival and blares her driving eighty down a back road playlist that is just a compilation of her favorite country songs. Every so often, it's interrupted by a text from the boy she's on her way to meet, sometimes complaints about the blonde girl that had left the house with him in hopes of spending time with him and sometimes just questioning how much longer it'll be until she gets there. The traffic isn't too bad for California at the time of a music festival, thankfully, and she enjoys her time, continually checking the ETA for the Airbnb that they're renting for the weekend and grinning every time the time cuts down by a minute or two. She's less of a reckless driver when Wren is in the car, but without her, she just wants to get to her destination and she's used to the California driving by now.
Soon, she's pulling into the driveway of the Airbnb, surprised by the amount of cars parked in front, and parking right behind Trevor's bright ass vehicle. Thankfully, he had tossed her bags into his vehicle to bring with him, so all she has to grab is her water bottle and phone and purse before heading in. While passing his vehicle, she lovingly pats it, thinking of the lunches the two of them have eaten in that car in the parking lot of her place of employment. Then she unlocks her phone and pulls up Jamie's contact in her phone, pressing call. It takes just two rings for him to answer.
"What's up, Chan?" he answers with. "Everything okay?"
"Just got out of my car. Am I good to just walk in?"
"Yeah. I'll meet you at the door so I can introduce you to the few amount of people here."
"Okay, sounds good," she responds with before hanging up the phone call.
The size of the house doesn't surprise her a whole lot, knowing that the guys who had all pooled together to rent the place are all hockey players and have money, so the price wouldn't have mattered much to them and that there were plenty of people housing together here. She is impressed, though, knowing that this is probably the nicest place she'll ever stay on a vacation unless she someday decides to marry rich or somehow becomes a billionaire. The door is unlocked and she steps right in, smiling when she sees Jamie rounding the corner. He grins widely at her, reaching out and dragging her into a hug. While she hugs him, she lets her eyes wander the room and take in the group of people who are hanging around and relaxing before the festival kicks off. They're all watching her warily, squinting their eyes in confusion at the seeming appearance of a girl for Jamie, something no one had expected. When he pulls away, he turns to everyone and wraps an arm around her shoulder.
