The rest of the month went by. Now it was April 11th, and today was Mirabel's 22nd birthday. She was working really hard on some new card designs when a delivery man came in and said, "Mirabel Ramirez—I have a delivery for Mirabel Ramirez."
"That would be me," Mirabel spoke up.
"Here you go," the delivery man smiled, handing her a vase of jacarandas.
"Oh, thank you," Mirabel smiled.
The delivery man left, and many of the other workers were really happy for Mirabel.
"Well, looks like someone got a birthday present," Mr. Prescott smiled.
"Well, who are the flowers from?" Rochelle asked.
Mirabel read the card out loud:
Dear Mirabel,
Happy birthday! Just a little something to let you know I'm thinking of you. I'll see you tonight.
Con mucho amor,
Enrique
Leah, Riley, and Rochelle thought that was so cute.
"Aw, that's so sweet," Leah gushed.
"I'm so jealous," Riley smiled.
Mirabel could tell that her life is perfect with a man who truly loved her.
That night, both Mirabel's and Enrique's families got together at her house for her birthday dinner, and she told everyone that Enrique had sent flowers to her office.
"Aw, Enrique, that's so sweet," Lupe gushed.
"It's good to know my daughter has someone to love her," Esteban smiled.
Mirabel and Enrique shared a hug, happy to have each other in their lives.
About a month passed after that, and now it was May, just after Mother's Day. Next year, on the 25th, Mirabel and Enrique would get married, and they were looking forward to it. But while Mirabel was happy with her life, her ex-friends in Vega City weren't having it easy.
The winter 2017 semester at Lorelei, Beth, Robin, and Celeste's college had just finished, and they would be satisfied with this—but not this time. They were so busy thinking about how Mirabel would have the nerve to leave Vega City and move on with her life that they couldn't focus for the whole semester, much less on their finals.
"This has been the worst semester ever," Beth huffed. "I haven't been able to focus on my studies."
"Me neither," Robin sighed. "The entire semester, I was thinking about Mirabel, how she had the nerve to leave Vega City to move on with her life."
"How could she decide to leave Vega City and be happy that she did?" Celeste asked.
"I'll never understand biracial girls," Lorelei sighed.
Noemi and Gabe were passing by, and Noemi was really upset. "It's not fair—it's just not fair," she huffed.
"Hi, Noemi, Gabe, what's new?" Robin asked.
"I haven't designed a decent card since Valentine's Day," Noemi replied. "Ever since I learned that Mirabel is more successful at Butterfly Graphic Arts than I ever was at the Vega City Graphic Designers, I've been jumping the shark. Mr. Turtle already gave me about three months to come up with an eye-catching design, and if I don't design a decent card this week, I'll be fired for sure."
