That Thursday, the posse returned to Butterfly Bay, and Lorelei, Beth, Robin, and Celeste felt very out of place because of the people.
"Ugh, I can't wait to get this over with and go back to Vega City," Beth huffed.
"I know," Lorelei chimed in. "These people make me feel like I don't belong here."
"Don't worry," Gabe said. "We'll all have our wish come true after this."
"So, what's the plan, Gabraham?" Noemi asked.
"Mirabel said that Enrique is a firefighter, so we're going to set the Butterfly Graphic Arts building on fire," Gabe smirked. "Mirabel will be trapped, and Enrique will have to come in and save her. That's a great way for him to get killed, and Butterfly Graphic Arts can't possibly win the case."
"Sounds good," Noemi smirked.
At Butterfly Graphic Arts, Mirabel didn't have any work to do since she had to appear with Mr. Prescott at the case hearing tomorrow. She'd just finished talking with him in his office.
"Okay, I know what to do," Mirabel said, leaving the office.
"Good," Mr. Prescott smiled.
Mirabel didn't have any work to do today, so she decided to just clean out her work area. What nobody knew was that Gabe was entering the building, ready to set it on fire.
"Right, Mirabel, it's time you learned your lesson," Gabe smirked. He had a small gas tank with him, and he poured the gas on the floor through the hall. Then he struck a match and dropped it into the pool of gas, starting a fire that spread quickly. He was very pleased with what he did, and he hightailed it out of the building before he could get burned.
Meanwhile, Mirabel had been in the restroom, and she was about to return to her desk when she sniffed out the smoke. "What's that smell?" she asked herself. She followed the burning smell until she saw the smoke and then the flames. She was horrified with what she'd seen, and she needed to tell Mr. Prescott. As she raced back to her office, she saw a nearby fire alarm and pulled on it. The workers were shocked, but they calmly stopped what they were doing and made their way out of the building.
At the investigation bureau, Enrique was informed of the fire at Butterfly Graphic Arts.
"Enrique, isn't that where your fiancée works?" a friend asked.
"Yes, I'd better let her family know what's going on once we get there," Enrique said.
All the investigators went on their way to the BGA building.
At Butterfly Graphic Arts, the firefighters had arrived, and they were putting out the fire. Enrique called Mirabel's parents and told them what happened.
"Enrique, you know what to do," Mr. McBride said.
"Yes, sir," Enrique agreed. He carefully entered the building, so he could investigate the fire carefully, and he went deep inside when he heard coughing—and then he saw someone crawling out from under some smoke. "Mirabel?"
"Enrique!" Mirabel smiled. She was covered with smoke marks, and she was perfectly stable.
"What happened?" Enrique asked.
"I don't know," Mirabel replied. "I pulled the alarm when I saw the fire in the building, and the next thing I know, I can't find a safe exit."
"Well, I can help you with that—let me help you get out of here," Enrique offered.
