The porch was peaceful. At least more peaceful than inside. Now that I was gone, it seemed like inside got crazy. It wasn't long before I heard really loud whooping and cheering. I wondered what was going on. I sat down on the steps and just watched the leaves rustle and the sun get higher into the sky. Thats when I heard the door open again.

Johnny stepped out and sat down next to me. A good distance away though. He kept his scar as hidden as possible though. So I brushed my hair into my face to cover mine as well.

"What happened," he asked, quietly.

"What?" I asked. His voice was awful soft.

He gently brushed my hair away, revealing my cuts and bruises. "This."

"Oh, uh," I stuttered, covering it up again.

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to offend you."

"No, it's fine. I just, I don't want to remember," I replied.

"I understand," he said, putting his knees to his chest. "I don't like talking about it either."

"They got you too?" I asked, before realizing that I shouldn't make him talk when he just said he didn't want to talk about it. "Never mind, I'm sorry."

"Yeah. All five of them came up in a blue mustang. One of them had these rings and-"

Rings. Bob. Bob got him too.

"Bob Sheldon." I said, softly.

"What?"

"Bob Sheldon. He got me too."

"Oh."

He turned and looked at me, his scar fully visible now. He was actually really cute. We sat there in silence for a bit more before I saw a tear run down his cheek.

"Are you okay?" I asked.

"I can't take much more of this, I- I should probably just kill myself," he said, burying his face in his knees.

"What? No!" I said, scooting closer to him and rubbing his back.

"My old man, the Socs, I just can't do this."

"You're alright, stay strong," I said. I can't comfort people, I just can't. I'm not built like that. I didn't know what to say. The poor kid, he's probably only around my age. He shouldn't have to deal with anything like that.

"I'm so sorry," he stammered. "I- I don't mean to dump this all on you."

"No, it's totally fine," I said. "I completely know what you are talking about."

He stayed quiet and dried off his tears. "Thanks for being so nice to me," he said. "I'm Johnny."

"I'm Y/N." He gently shook my hand and we both said 'Nice to meet you' at the same time. His smile was really perfect- wait what?

"Y/N," he said, thinking hard. It was like he was trying to engrave my name into his head. "I haven't seen you around."

"Yeah, I just moved here."

"Oh, where?"

"Yeah, I'm on the west side."

"You're a Soc?" he asked, looking shocked.

"What?"

"You'll find out soon enough, I really shouldn't be with you, I'm sorry-"  Johnny stood up, jammed his fingers in his pockets, and walked to the door.

"Wait!" I called. "What's wrong?"

"Well, I'm a Greaser and you're a Soc, it just ain't gonna work. I'm awful sorry."

"Well than that's it? You're just going to run away because I'm from a different area? That's not how friends work!"

Johnny stopped and looked stunned. I was stunned too, I almost never talked like that. Especially to strangers. He turned around and sat back down.

"Sorry, I- I just can't ever forget what they did."

"Not all of us are like that. Just a couple of jerks, alright?"

He nodded slowly. "So, we're friends?"

"I guess we are."
