"Have a nice day!" My mom exclaims to the taxi driver as she closes the door to his car.
I look up at the big building that consumes my entire attention.
This will be my home for the next 3 years..
Large buildings fill the skyline.. Scattered everywhere. The sites and smells of New York reminds me of home..
"Woooow this is amazing!" My mom exclaims loudly
--
We walk around the corner to where the main lobby room is.My mom signs me in and the lady hands a card that has my name and ID on it.
"This is your campus ID.. you will need it to get into your dorm room and on and off of campus. Swipe it before every class or training to mark your attendance. It will become your best friend.. Take it with you everywhere and don't loose it! There is a fee for a new card and it won't be easy to get it.. so, don't loose it." she smiles, I look down at the card and lightly brush my fingers along the lanyard that has 'Juilliard' all over it.
After handing me a folder stuffed with papers- my mom and I walk over to a corner and look inside.
A map of the campus, my class schedules which start the day after tomorrow..
A menu for the cafeteria, a page with times from when the cafeteria opens and closes, when the gift shops open and close, when the gates open and close, curfew and a rule book.
A few other things...
I close the folder and hold it against my chest.. My mom looks up at me with tears swelled in her eyes.
"I just got you back and now you're leaving again." she says brushing her hand along my shoulder before pulling me into a hug.
"Mom.. this is different. I'm better now! Promise."
She finally lets go and we say goodbye for the last time.
She hands me my duffel bag which I slip over my shoulder.
I put my folder in my backpack but hold the campus map in my right hand.
Securing the handle of my suitcase in my left fingers I begin to wheel through the lobby and push the doors open to find a large backyard.
I'm mesmerized by the beauty of this amazing building and barely even remember where I'm suppose to go.
A little pond with fish sit right in the middle of the yard that is presumably flooded with freshman and students that have been here for years on end.
I look at each of the trees that aren't even 15 feet tall and the flowers that are scattered around in random places.
When I realize I don't see an exit just yet that's suppose to lead to the building with my dorm, I turn my focus back onto my map..
And just as I do, I feel like I just ran into a wall of bricks.
My map crumbles in my hand and out of my grip as it smashes against my body and falls to the ground like a feather.
I fall back and trip over my suitcase but thank the duffel bag and backpack for breaking my fall.
The first thing I think of is if I'm okay, but once I realize I'm fine I look over to see who decided to try and kill me on my first day.. and I would recognize those blue eyes anywhere..
-----
"I-" he says handing me my paper back; not breaking eye contact.I snatch my map from his hands and struggle to stand.
