This is everything
I've ever wanted.
I'm the happiest I've been in a very long time,
Maybe ever.
But there's still an emptiness.
I didn't notice it at first.
It was only a pinprick.
But slowly,
Slowly,
It grew.
...
The stars are hiding tonight.
"There is nothing out there,"
They tell me,
"Only emptiness."
And they're right...
There is only empty space,
A sea of blackness
Spreading across the galaxy.
Tonight the stars are in hiding.
From the moon?
From Saturn?
From the once-in-a-lifetime comet?
From me?
Why have they disappeared behind the blackout curtain?
Why did they return to their shy nature?
What scared them away?
Was it the stress of holding the universe?
Was it my squeals of excitement?
Tonight, I lament the loss of the twinkling I've
Grown to love,
To wander endlessly from the quiet corner of
My backyard.
Tonight, I mourn for the bitter endings, knowing
Full well that tomorrow's sunshine is
Worth tonight's hushed whispers.
Tonight, I embrace the unknowns and
Wander the empty skies for future adventures,
For colorful memories,
For this everlasting, fleeting present.
