chapter 27: lost and found
Seraphina slumped against the cold wet wall of her cell. She had been kidnapped outside the hospital, and there was no way to know who had taken her or for what reason. All she knew was that she was pregnant and terrified for her baby's safety.
She heard the sound of heavy footsteps approaching and braced herself. Her captors entered the cell, roughly grabbing her by the arms. Terror flooded Seraphina as she thought they might harm her or the baby.
"Time for another ultrasound," one of the men growled. They dragged Seraphina to another room and forced her onto a table. As the doctor performed the ultrasound, Seraphina watched his face closely for any reaction. His eyes widened in surprise at seeing the fetus on the screen.
Fear clutched at Seraphina's heart, though the baby seemed unharmed for now. Her child was a tiny captive like herself, and she wept at the thought of her baby growing up in this place.
The kidnappers seemed uncertain of how to proceed now that they were aware of the pregnancy. They could use it as leverage, or see the baby as a burden. Seraphina had no way of knowing their motives or if they would allow the child to be born.
They dragged her back to the cell, leaving her shaken and afraid for the future. Seraphina wept, unable to escape the horrors closing in around her. Her baby's life was still in danger, and there seemed no way out of this nightmare.
Meanwhile, Alaric was frantically searching everywhere for Seraphina. He had contacted the police, checked with her friends and family, searched recent news reports - but there was no clue or lead to be found. It was as if she had vanished into thin air.
Alaric was a wreck, terrified for Seraphina and his unborn child. He vowed to move heaven and earth to find them, even if it meant risking his own life. His loved ones had been taken from him, and he would stop at nothing to get them back, alive and unharmed. The kidnappers had made a grave mistake, and would soon face the wrath of a parent seeking vengeance to protect their child.
Alaric steeled his nerves, knowing the danger that lie ahead. But for Seraphina and their baby, he was prepared to face any peril. He would find them, no matter the cost. Their love would guide him true, as he journeyed into darkness seeking light.
Though shadows closed in around, hope remained. For captive hearts still beating as one, and a flame to lead them home.
