The next morning I woke up on the sofa. My shirt was off since I let it dry from Tam's tears. I wore my shirt and I went back to sleeping like I used to at home during weekends. On weekdays, I'd also do the same then my mom would eventually try to wake me up several times until she told me lies that it was already 7AM and I'll be late for my 8AM class. The room was still dark so I assume it's about 5AM or something. It was a weekend anyway so why bother waking up so early. Then I hear noises from the bathroom. It echoed through the bathroom's tiles. I stood up, walked over towards the bathroom and saw Tam sitting in front of the toilet, throwing up. After she threw up, she finally noticed me standing in front of the door, then she cried... Tammy was pregnant.
She threw up some more so I stood behind her started rubbing her back. Her back was wet, she was sweating. When she was done throwing up, I grabbed her from her armpits and raised her up. I think she was frozen in fear that I finally knew her darkest secret. I placed her on the sofa, grabbed some water and I let her drink. I asked her where her dresser is so she can change her shirt. She didn't respond, she just froze there and stared on the wall. I went to her room and saw the clothes I folded from last night sitting on top of the drawer. I grabbed one of those shirts and a bra and gave it to her. I asked her to change. At first she didn't respond.
"It's going to be okay Tam." I said while I placed my hand on top of hers. After a few moments she took off her shirt. I was surprised by this so I went to the kitchen and started looking for anything she could eat for breakfast. I saw a pack of crackers and I grabbed it.
"Just tell me when you are done" I said. Much to my horror, she didn't respond. I knew she wouldn't but this would mean I wouldn't know if she changed or not and I do not know when to look. So I tried to go through her refrigerator, through cabinets and everything I could see just to keep myself busy of what is happening behind me. I even tried to look through the same place twice even though I already have crackers on my hand. Then I slowly peaked at her and she has already changed.
"Here." I said while giving her the crackers. She didn't grab it, so I opened it and grabbed one of the crackers inside and placed it on her hand. She just placed it on the side of the sofa. She stood up and told me that it's almost 6AM and I'm going to be late for class.
That's when it hit me, it wasn't a weekend, it was a Monday. She grabbed her keys from her room, told me to lock the doors, stepped outside and got the car running. In the car, she was even more quiet. I asked her what time is her class, she told me "after lunch". I asked her a bunch of questions about school and other things in an attempt to distract her. She answered with a few words or she didn't answer at all. That's when I lost patience...
"Aren't you going to talk about it?" I asked. She didn't respond. "Is that how you two broke up?"
"None of your business" She replied.
"Are you going to keep it?"
"I don't want to talk about it"
"What are you talking about? What makes you think I would just sit here and let you deal with this alone?" I replied with my voice raised.
"Fuck you Red! You shouldn't give a shit about what I do" She raised her voice higher than I did. "You should stop caring about people who do not give a shit about you!"
Then I stopped talking. She did too. That last sentence got to me, have I cared too much of people who doesn't really care about me? I thought that has been the story of my life. And this moment is just a slap in the face. I felt so happy when she kissed me last night, but I knew she did it at her moment of weakness. She wasn't herself. Like right now, she isn't. She's angry at me for what? For caring for other people. I was so angry my heart was racing, I want more answers.
