It was the first day of school, I was kind of excited of how this school year is going to be. It was the first school year that Mark won’t be around. I immediately joined Lucas for our first class which is Physical Education Four. It’s weird that we have PE class so early but I guess the professor we got didn’t have another schedule. As soon as we reached the halls, I could see a few girls with their backs turned. I imagined one or two of them being Jane. Until now, these halls were we first meant still echoes what could have been between us. On the brighter side of things, Jane’s ex already graduated and we are Juniors now. One more year and we would be kings.

But really, every thinking about Jane and being kings are just my escape to reality back at home. I have my bestfriend who needs me more than ever. Sometimes I wonder why I have to carry such a heavy burden. But then again, Tam had it worse. I can’t imagine being in her place right now. She only has Claire, my mom and I. So I planned on inviting Mike and Ron over that night.

The day was a typical day for me and even Lucas said it was an “okay” first day. I knew he was lying, I bet he misses Mark.

“Hey, why don’t you come to my house tonight, we’re going to have a boring dinner with friends.” I said.

                “That’s a nice idea!”

                “Really?”

“No not really, I need to get home.”

“Are you serious? Home?” I asked.

“Not really, it’s actually my girlfriend”.

“Really? You now have a girlfriend?” I said.

                “No, not really”

“What the fuck, can stop fooling around Lucas?”

“Yeah it’s my girlfriend, we met over the summer.”

“Oh, good for you man!” I said. “Mark would be so proud”

“Haha, hey maybe we could have another boy’s night out when Mark is around.”

“Sure thing Lucas, sure thing.” I rplied.

Later that night we had dinner with Tam, Mike, Ron, Claire and I. It was really comforting for Tam. Credits go to my mom and Tam for preparing dinner.

Nobody mentioned anything about the incident last Friday even though I kind of filled in Mike and Ron about everything via online chat. Actually, I never told anyone about Tam’s whereabouts because she requested it, well until now. Tam was really happy that night and she appreciated everyone supporting her. The night was all smiles until Mike asked if it’s going to be a boy or girl.

                “I don’t know” Tam said.

“Didn’t you have her checked?” Mike asked.

                “No, not yet.” Tam replied.

“Didn’t you bring her to get checked” I asked.

“Tam said you’re the one who was going to take her?” Claire argued.

                “I’m sorry… I’ll go get checked soon…” Claire said.

“Why did you lie to us?” I asked.

“No, it’s just I’m afraid, please just drop it.”

And we all did and we all proceeded in eating. When everyone went home, I tucked Tam to bed and I said…

“I’ll be absent tomorrow so I can take you to the doctor”

“Red, please don’t do that, I’ll just ask Claire, for real this time.” She said.

She looked me in the eyes and tried to reach for my head with her hand. I leaned in, and I let her pull me down to where she was lying. She kissed me on the lips for the third time.
