Cedric who had been trapped inside his office for almost a week decided to take a break and sneak into the imperial garden.

He liked the imperial garden a lot since he was young and the emperor knew about it thus he turned a blind eye if Cedric suddenly went missing because he knew where to find him.

Cedric still remember how he first met the emperor.

The emperor's mother was a foreign princess from a fallen Kingdom thus her status wasn't that high. She couldn't speak the empire's language fluently causing her being the subject of ridicule.

Countess Reinhardt, Cedric's mother was then appointed by the emperor to be the language teacher for his concubine.

Smooth silky golden hair with golden eyes along with a health fair skin and tall stature, the concubine could even mesmerized any women let alone men.

Following his mother to the palace, Cedric began to like the garden that was being maintained by the concubine who his mother called Lady Aria.

That was also when he met the emperor who was still a child. But they never became close.

Soon, Lady Aria died of illness and he didn't know what happened to Ardan until the war broke out.

The rest was history.

After Ardan ascended the throne, Cedric decided to serve him without any particular reason despite his mother disagreeing with his decision since their family had always been neutral.

Thus if he worked beside the emperor, he obviously needed to choose the emperor's side.

"Is this uncle dead? Maybe the palace gardener is overworked."

"He is still alive Helena. Don't curse people about death and I don't think he's a gardener."

"If he's not a gardener then he must have been slacking off here."

"That's not our business Helena and what are you doing with that?"

"I'm just testing something."

Suddenly Cedric who was just closing his eyes while lying on the ground under the shades of an apple tree could hear a few voices around him.

Thus feeling curious, Cedric opened his eyes and unknowingly saw a grotesque looking mask that looked like a mixture of various monsters and human face mixed together.

"!!!!!" The fuck is this?

"Aha, his face looked funny. My mask must've amused him too much," a small girl said looking proud.

"I think it's the opposite. Didn't Daddy already tell you not to make this kind of mask anymore?" The boy beside her who was holding a wodden horse doll said.

"But I don't like doing embroideries."

"Then read more books."

Cedric looked at the two children while still not knowing what to say until he realized there was someone else there.

Standing silently on the side, the young lady looked at him as if she was seeing a fool and it was the first time he ever saw such blatant look from the opposite gender but when he wanted to get mad at her, his voice seem to stuck in his throat for some reason.

No woman ever looked at him like that. He couldn't help but looked elsewhere, flustered.

"Hey uncle, do you work in the palace? Is it fun?" The girl asked.
