"Are we both going in the TARDIS or are you taking your ship?"

"We'll drive separate. That way it'll be harder to get caught," Jack hummed, turning his head briefly to wink. Y/n laughed and shook her head.

"Do you know when you plan on enacting this scheme?"

Jack paused fully, looking as though he hadn't thought of that yet. He stopped packing his essentials and leaned against the bathroom counter, letting out a small 'huh.' He placed his fist over his mouth and chin and furrowed his brows.

"... You didn't think that far ahead did you." He let out a puff of air in offense was Y/n snickered. "Well, this is a sorta morbid suggestion, but... If it's Earth then we might as well go with a war. Too many people would notice usually if a large object fell out of the sky," she said, trying to think back to her history class back when she was 13. "World war... 2? 1940 something, might work out well."

"Y/n Harkness, you're a genius!"

"Not married to you, but thanks."

"Let a man dream," Jack joked, zipping up his bag. "I have my ship parked about two miles west, and three miles up. Think you can make it that precise?" He knew she could, but sometimes he liked asking just to see the annoyed look she made. It kept everything lighthearted, which was most certainly an intentional move on his part for this adventure.

"Of course I can," she scoffed, following him back into the control room. He sat down on her little plush couch with his bag beside him and leaned back, smiling at her. Y/n input the location into the console and pulled a lever, waiting a few seconds before pressing a small blue button. She pulled the screen over to face her and tapped a few things, checking the external cameras in case she actually didn't make it that precise. To her relief, she did.

Jack walked out of the TARDIS and into his own ship, sitting down and looking at Y/n, who stayed in her doorway. "Alright, time and place. Let's say London, 1941. Maybe... March 15th? Let's go about noon. That won't be too cold, do you think?"

"With the fires? It'll be fine, probably. What's the lowest human temperature, again? No, wait. Doesn't matter. You'll be alright with a coat."

Jack smiled, a little exasperated but not in a bad way. He wasn't sure if he would every get used to her bizarre immortal ramblings, but he always found them strangely refreshing nonetheless. He shifted in his chair to reach to a rack beside him, holding up his coat and waving it around in front of him. Y/n laughed at him and nodded with no message.

"Then let's get going, yes? I'll go first. I'm sure you'll find me around, somewhere." The moment Jack gave a sign of affirmation, she slipped back into the TARDIS and shut the door behind her. She input the destination and sent the ship on its way. Y/n landed a few hours before they agreed, needing some time.

She was up and chipper about the whole thing when discussing it with Jack, always happy to go along with his plans, but now she was landed on Earth it started to fully sink in. She... wasn't sure she was ready to be there. And now she'd be stepping out the door in just three hours. She wasn't ready. She wasn't ready at all. She—...

Wait...

Y/n approached the console slowly and input a new destination. A mile over, a few hours earlier. She set off, landing once again. There, she thought. Now she had six hours to prepare herself. She sat down for a minute or two, breathing deeply. She tried turning on the cameras and watching the outside as a way of making sure there'd be no surprises. Oh, but... It was a war. She may need additional time to prepare herself to be on Earth in the middle of a war.

She sent herself back a few more hours. Then a few more. Oh, but she truly wasn't ready to be back, so a few more hours would help. Maybe days? Days would give her enough time to be comfortable enough so she wouldn't make any mistakes later on...
