The group stood outside the chainlink fence that surrounded the crash site. The area was swarmed with soldiers, so they couldn't really just walk in. 'Well,' Y/n thought, 'The humans can't. Maybe I can suggest I just head in?' She shook off the idea. The Doctor wanted to see the site personally, though Y/n wasn't sure why. She completely forgot to tell them that she figured out what was happening.

"Oh look, they've got Algy on duty. Must be important," Jack said, spying on the guards. Y/n hummed, having a feeling she knew how they were going to get in.

"We've got to get past him."

Y/n held back a sarcastic remark at the Doctor's phenomenal observation. Yes, yes they did.

Rose raised an eyebrow at the group, looking suspicious. "Are the words distract the guard heading in my general direction?" She figured she was the only one with the... assets, to do so. Y/n was beautiful, she wasn't saying anything otherwise, she just wasn't sure if she was a great actor or flirt, due to her general deadpan nature. Funnily enough, Y/n didn't think Rose was a good actor either.

"I don't think that'd be such a good idea."

"I can handle it," the human defended, assuming the captain thought she wasn't capable of it. Y/n smiled slightly to herself and pat the girl's shoulder. She'd realise soon.

"I've got to know Algy quite well since i first came to town," Jack said, a mischievous grin on his face, "Trust me, you're not his type. I'll distract him. Don't wait up!"

Jack jogged off, content in his new self-assigned task. Y/n snickered. "Your curfew's at 11, young man!" she called after him, just loud enough for him to hear but quiet enough for the soldiers not to. Jack just flipped her off playfully without looking back.

"Relax," the Doctor said, glancing down at Rose, "He's a 51st century guy. He's just a bit more flexible when it comes to dancing."

"How flexible?"

"Well, by his time, you lot have spread out across half the galaxy."

"Meaning?"

"So many species, so little time," the Doctor mused. Y/n didn't want to laugh, but she found it quite amusing. It was true, of course, but it was such a human thing. Y/n had seen twitter before she was... well, she had seen twitter before. Of course humans were going to mate with any alien willing, no matter how strange they looked. If there's a will, there's unfortunately a way.

"What, that's what we do when we get out there? That's our mission? We seek new life, and..."

"Dance," the Doctor finished for her, smiling. He, like Y/n, found it quite amusing. He looked up again, checking on Jack. He trusted the former Time Agent to do well on his own, but he didn't trust him. It was good he looked when he did, too, because it seemed Algy was developing a bit of a gas mask. He immediately ran over, with Rose and Y/n following close behind. Some soldiers saw and tried coming up to them, ideally to get rid of intruders, but the Doctor and Jack kept them away. "Stay back!"

"You men, stay away!"

The Doctor observed Algy for a moment, before sighing. "The effects become air-borne, accelerating." He shut his eyes briefly to think, not liking the situation one bit. The air raid sirens started up again right then, furthering the direness of the situation. Only a couple hours until it's too late to save everyone. A couple hours until everyone dies.

"What's keeping us safe?"

"Nothing."

Y/n tuned out the conversation again, finding this bad habit to be a very helpful coping mechanism. She still hadn't quite gotten comfortable with Earth (though it was easier than she thought, considering she was a bit distracted with the whole empty child thing), and she still hadn't quite gotten comfortable with the Doctor, either. He was so... soldier-like. She didn't like soldiers. Soldiers of the Time War were what took her away from home.
