Tai:
(Y/n), go do the dishes.

(Y/n):
Yes, Mister Xiao Long.

I immediately get to work, worried for the few privileges that I do have. Yang and Ruby run past without acknowledging me. It's probably for the best. They haven't been so kind since mom left.

Tai:
It's your fault, you know.

I don't understand why he constantly has to remind me.

Tai:
She left to find your family almost six years ago. No one knows what happened to her. She left because of you. She's gone because of you.

(Y/n):
I couldn't ha--

Tai:
That doesn't matter. You're lucky you're useful. Otherwise, I'd give you up to an orphanage by now. You're just some kid, Summer dropped off before disappearing. Nothing more.

He leaves th--

Tai:
And quit attracting Grimm. Your life could be much worse.

He leaves the kitchen and leaves me to my thoughts

Yang:
Hey (Y/n)! Let's play.

(Y/n):
I don't think...

Yang:
I'll tell dad if you don't.

And then I'll lose something and still be beat.

(Y/n):
F-fine...

Yang:
Let's play Hunters and Grimm. You're a Beowolf. That means you get on all fours.

I get down on the ground.

Yang:
Now sniff for your prey.

I put my head down and start sniffing when I feel a pain in my stomach as Yang kicks me

Yang:
Ruby! I found a Beowolf! Come help!

Ruby squeals and joins in as the two of them punch and kick me. I curl up into a ball and try to just lessen the beating. Tai comes out of the forest, and they stop for a bit.

Yang & Ruby:
Dad!/Daddy!

Tai:
Hey girls! What are you doing?

Yang:
We're playing Hunters and Grimm.

Ruby:
Yeah! (Y/n)'s a nasty Beowolf.

Tai:
Sounds like fun, but if you're going to play rough with her, at least pull your punches. She can't do their chores if she's too bruised.

Ruby:
Aww, okay.

It's one P.M. now. I would hope that he's forgotten, but I know better.

Tai:
(Y/n)! Get outside!

I listen. Ruby and Yang are already waiting excitedly

Tai:
You know the deal. Summer left this present for you in case you did go with your mother. And you're not getting it unless you can take it from me.

I know doing nothing is worse than just getting hit, so I walk towards him and brace myself.

But nothing could prepare for his punch to my face. I'm sent reeling from the pain.

Tai:
Why don't you actually try this time.

I run for the present and leap at it when Tai's elbow digs into my back

(Y/n):
Gah!

He then kicks me in the stomach and sends me flying back as Ruby and Yang cheer.

I try to get up as he... approaches me? Why is he approaching me? I-I don't want this.

I try backing away, but he dashes at me and kicks me in my arm as I let out another pained cry.

Why is he doing this? This is much worse! H-he's going to kill me... He wants m-me dead...

My legs buckle, but I was punched again before I could fall. I didn't even see it coming this time

Tai:
Get up.

I try, but he knocks me right back down.

Tai:
Get. Up.

H-he's too fast. I need to dodge, but I just can't see. I can't see his attacks coming... I can't see him stopping... I can't see me surviving this time. I can't see... I can't see...

I suddenly feel more energized and see myself get punch, but I don't feel it until a second after as I'm hit again.

I get up, and when I see another punch coming, I duck and actually avoid it. I don't pause for a moment before punching him in the balls. He falls instantly in pain as I grab the present and run into the forest. And I didn't stop until I stopped seeing myself getting caught.

Once I stop running, I sit down to catch my breath. I take the note attached to it and open it up

"Happy birthday (Y/n)! I wanted to prepare this in case you do return to your real mom in..."

The next part is scratched out, and I'm not sure if I should be happy or sad. I already see mom as my mom, but I have family out there that I'll never know.

"You living with us has been nothing short of a blessing. I love you very much, and I hope that you never forget that. Especially with this present that I got for you. Hopefully, you'll grow into it.

I open the box and pull out a beautiful (F/c) cloak with a silver rose brooch just like hers. I pull it close and hug it as I start to tear up.

I then hear Tai yelling for me to come out. I put on the cloak before climbing up a tree to try and spot him. I see his blonde hair really far away and climb back down before going into the opposite direction.

If I go back to Patch, they'll just return me like always. I need to find somewhere else.
