I brought Becky to our room and washed her before returning to the main campus. I didn't bother to get it since she was wasted. Although she could stand, I didn't want her to join the chaotic crowd. It's a battle of the bands, for sure, students would play hard metal rock, and she would get dizzier there.
"Where did you go?" the professor asked me.
"Becky asked me for a favor. Did she find the cymbal?" I lied.
He hit my head and looked around to see if someone saw him hitting me.
"You should never do that to Ms. Armstrong. Asking her to find something in the darkroom? Where are your manners?" He scolded me.
"You know it's dark, yet you told me to go there." I lifted my brows.
"Because you're used to it, don't you?"
I was offended by what he said—used to the dark? Because I am poor? I scoffed at the thought. He should be thankful I wouldn't tell Becky what he did tonight.
"What are you staring at? Go to the gymnasium. Heng is looking for you," he ordered.
I walked past, bumping him. I heard him shout my name, but I ignored him.
When I entered the gymnasium, I saw Heng wearing a black leather jacket and carrying an electric guitar. He sprinted in my direction and smiled at me.
"I was looking for you," he said between his breaths.
"Congratulations, you found me." I sarcastically said.
"Come. I saved you a seat." Heng reached for my hands and pulled me in front, and made me sit on the VIPs.
Everyone was looking at us, and some were rolling their eyes at me. Heng smiled again and kissed my forehead, making me startled. Most students shrieked at what he did.
What the hell was that? Did he just kiss me? If Becky saw it, I would be dead by now. Hell, no!
"Good evening, Kings!" Heng shouted, and everyone greeted him too. He looked at me and mouthed, "This is for you."
I rolled my eyes and crossed my arms. Whatever this is, I hope Becky won't know a thing. She'll overthink again, and worse, it will trigger her anxiety, which I hope she doesn't have.
Heng's bandmates started to create the rhythm everybody wanted, but the melody changed from rock to mellow.
"I could say I never dare. To think about you in that way, but I would be lyin'," Heng sang and looked me in the eyes.
I had no idea what he was singing, and I didn't care. If I could jab his eyes, I would.
"And I pretend I'm happy for you. When you find some girl to take home, but I won't deny that."
What did he want me to do? Let Becky sleep outside? Is he dumb, or what? Goodness, gracious. I need to get out of here.
"In the midst of the crowds. In the shapes in the clouds. I don't see nobody but you." Heng started to amble, causing my heart beat faster.
Lord, if he's going in my direction, you can take him with you.
"In my rose-tinted dreams. Wrinkled silk on my sheets. I don't see nobody but you," Heng sang before me.
I wanted to disappear right now. I wanted the ground to open up and swallow me whole.
"Girl, you got me hooked onto something. Who could say that they saw us coming? Tell me, do you feel the love?"
What love is he singing? He's crazy.
"Spend a summer or a lifetime with me. Let me take you to the place of your dreams. Tell me, do you feel the love?" Heng tried to lean in for a kiss, but someone pushed him away from me, causing everyone to gasp.
"Did Becca and Heng date? And her roommate stole him from her?" I heard the student behind me whisper.
I looked at her with knitted brows, and she immediately lowered her head.
The faculty couldn't do anything, even Heng's bandmates. They were only looking at Becky and Heng with disbelief. They didn't know why they were glaring at each other.
If I intervened, I would be in a big chaos. Their fans would smother me in my sleep. I didn't want that to happen.
Heng moved forward and whispered in Becky's ears. Even though it was a whisper, I could still hear it.
"What can you do, armweak? I'm not afraid of you," he said.
"If you want to stay longer, stay away from my girl." Becky glared at him, causing him to huff.
"In case you forgot, I know something that everybody could never know. You're still afraid, aren't you?" Heng smirked at him.
Becky's hand turned into a fist. I looked at everyone waiting for someone to explain what was happening, but no one stood.
I want to get out of here, but I can't leave these two. I must choose one, and we'll escape from these judgemental eyes. I need to save our faces.
I grabbed Becky's hand and pulled her out of the crowd. I didn't care if people would think differently. Becky needed a rest, and I would take care of her tonight.
"Why did you leave me?" Becky asked the moment we returned to our room.
"I'm sorry," I apologized. "Are you mad?"
"He confessed. He likes you, Freenky." Becky lowered her head and started to sob.
"But I don't like him. Is that enough to ease the pain?" I asked.
I can't tell her something I don't feel. I can't say I love her because I'm not sure yet.
"Tell me more," she prompted.
"I'm yours."
