Chapter 52: Fireworks

Hinata's POV

As I watched the go-carts zooming past us, my body jumped up with every roar of the engines. I couldn't help but feel a twinge of hesitation creeping up on me. Unlike me, our group were filled with an intense and burning spirit of competition. Once the people before us parked their carts, Sasuke dragged me to one of the go-carts with a two-seater.

"Sasuke... Why would you cho-choose this place?" He ignored the worrisome in my eyes. The smile in his eyes didn't match his poker face.

"Hyugas need excitement in their life." He said as he helped me climb over in the cart.

"Didn't we have enough?" I scrunched my brows.

"Not enough to spend every moment with you. Let's enjoy ourselves as we can. Now let me help you with this." He reached over and buckled my seatbelt across my chest.

"Don't hesitate to hold me if you get scared." He muttered. It only made me feel worse than I am.

"Sasuke... I feel like crying." I whined. While he was busy fixing his seat belt, his nose scrunched.

"Why!?" He turned to me.

"I never did this before. What if the cart flips? What if some-someone hit us or we hit them? I don't know ... I might throw up. Do I look sick!?" My hands ran up and down my warm cheeks.

"Hinata." He called out.

"Yes?" I fixed my gaze on him, praying my puppy dog's eyes changed his mind. But the smirk on his face dismissed my hopes.

"Will it make you feel better if I drive as fast as possible to get it over?" He's trying to kill me!

"No! Are you crazy-!?" His lips pressed against my cheek, stopping my mind from racing through many cart accident possibilities.

He pulled inches away from me to gaze into my eyes. I can see the reflection of my face in his dark orbs. I never knew it had a hint of grey.

"I'm a great driver. Do you trust me?" He asked in a hushed voice. I do trust him.

Not with my life. In this cart. Haven't we already subjected ourselves to plenty of frightening experiences months ago?

"...Not really..." After hearing the unsure tone of my voice, his dark eyes rolled.

"I trusted you with my life." His hand thumped over his chest, trying to look offended.

"You had no choice," I mumbled. Sasuke's brow raised slightly arched as he sat back and gripped the stirring wheel with one hand. He looked forward and grunted.

"Nh." In translation, I have no choice either.

Oh, Kami!!

"Sasu-" My body jerked back in my seat once the bell rang.

If Sasuke hadn't reassured me that he was a great driver and promised to hold my hand if I got scared, my nerves wouldn't have eased.

The start of the cart scared me, so I immediately held Sasuke's arm. The jerking turns, and slick drifts made my heart and stomach high-five each other. I knew my hair would be out of place since it wildly whipped in the air. I kept closing my eyes, but Sasuke would encourage me not to miss every second each time.

I prayed that we make it alive. It was too-

"If I win, I'll buy you ice cream."

With that said, it changed the mood. Even though Sasuke's playing with my emotions by baiting me with my weakness of sweets, I gulped down my fear and focused on how fast he was going compared to the other drivers.
