I couldn't get much sleep with all the anticipation I felt. Only a few days ago I finally met my idol, and now I get to fight him! He's definitely going to be a tough opponent, especially considering his genius. Plus, I doubt he'd take it easy on me. Sounded like he fights the ladies just as hard as he fights with guys. As if fangirling I scream into my pillow excitedly, even kicking my feet in the air.I need to distract myself, maybe I should go work on my inventions while I wait for everyone to get their rest. Rick is an older dude, I'm sure he needs the rest more than anyone. As I open the door to the garage I see Rick had the same plan as me.
Hearing the door open, he looks up with some safety goggles on and a torch in his hand. "Oh look whose up. I see you got your sword." he gestures to the sheath strapped to my back. The handle sticking out past my head. "That looks awfully large, are you sure you can wield it?" He teases. As if amping me up for the fight.
"I can demonstrate for you now, if you'd like," I walk over to his side and glance at what he's making. "Whatcha up to?"
He looks at his mess then back up at me. I know we haven't fully established trust yet so it's clear he's deciding whether to tell me or not. "Something. If you stick around long enough you'll find out."
I nod before looking away from it and placing my sword down on a nearby chair. Pulling out some other gadgets I brought from home, I plop them onto another desk and grab some tools. It falls silent in the garage for a while, maybe even hours. The only noise was of us crafting with the tools.
Surprisingly enough it seems like Rick is more willing to befriend me as he breaks the silence. "I'm probably going to unfreeze time tomorrow. It's already been like a week. Afterward, Morty wants to go on an adventure and says we should invite you. You wanna go?"
We both stop what we are doing, Rick waiting for an answer, and me trying not to lose my mind. "R-REALLY?!" I quickly clear my throat trying not to sound desperate. "I mean- really? Is that alright? I don't want to be a burden or make you uncomfortable."
"I wouldn't ask if you made me uncomfortable. And if you're as good at fighting as you say you are, I'm sure you won't be a burden." He uncharacteristically offers reassurance. Although it seems something so rare I'll never hear him do it again.
I smile brightly and nod, "I'd love to go. I haven't been off Earth in a long time. Where do you plan to go?"
"I need some minerals on Gorflexsh Nebula and maybe go on a Morty quest. For some reason he thinks he can get all high and mighty with me, demanding he takes over adventures. So I know tomorrow he's planning on flexing his balls and making a deal with me."
I flashback to when I told Morty he should ask Rick if he can take control of adventures, and now feel partly responsible. But I'm proud of Morty for taking my advice. Trying to help Morty's cause I add, "I'm not sure Morty's adventure will be that bad. Maybe you'll have fun. I'd be glad to tag along and see what happens."
"You don't know Morty as well as I do. He'll probably choose some lame - over used - plot line about being a hero and going on a quest. It's going to bomb." Rick groans at the thought. "Although maybe that's better for you-"
"Since you think I've never been on an adventure before? Didn't I tell you that I used to wander around the galaxy? I've had plenty of adventures."
"Yeah, but how long have you been out of the game? You'll probably be pretty rusty at-"
I interrupt Rick again, not liking his assumptions about me. "You can worry about me after we've had our fight." I cross my arms and look back at my work, now slightly irritated.
