summer
The two of you were quiet. Neither one of you dared to speak, and your movements were limited and soundless. You sat in his chair while he laid in his bed on his phone. You were bored. You had no idea how long you had spent in his room, but it already felt like it was way too long. His room didn't really change, beside new posters and figures he may have collected after a while. His fanboy self never got over his All Might obsession, aye? He was looking away from you, faced toward the window. Before, when you were forced to "catchup" with him, you two had walked in, closed the door, and that was it, ans now you were here. Your grandmother and his mother were bound to talk for a while, because you knew your grandmother was quite social, and his mother was quite friendly. You moved yourself up the chair, as your previous position began to get uncomfortable, and you laid back in the chair. You ran out of games that you could play without wi-fi and you really dreaded the thought of asking for the wi-fi password. You glanced at your phone, glaring at the screen which presented a message saying 'cannot continue without a wi-fi connection'. You were desperate. What else could you do? You slightly spinner in the chair, glancing at the ceiling, then the poster that was in front of you, then back to your phone. Deciding that you would rather rid yourself of boredom than just stare at a wall, you worked up your pride to ask for the wi-fi password.
"Hey..Midoriya..what's your wi-fi password.."
You cursed at yourself for sounding so nervous. Nervous actually wasn't a word you would describe it, more like...regretful? Like you didn't want to he there? Obviously. You weren't even sure if he was gonna give it to you, more convinced he would just ignore you, or scoff and say something like 'why would you need it?' or 'why would i give it to you?' You waited for a response, praying that he would give it to you and say nothing else. It was a simple thing, really, then you could go back to ignoring one another. You heard a sigh from where he was, dragging your eyes to meet his figure as he sat up and held his hand out.
"Give it. I'll put it in myself."
You gave it to him, but not without furrowing your eyebrows. You didn't want him to think you were trying to be friendly. He didn't seem pleased about you asking anyway. Was he fake with all people or just you?
"There."
He handed your phone back to you, and laid back in the position he was before on his bed. The only difference was he was now facing the ceiling. You didn't respond when he gave it back, not wanting to thank him. It didn't concern you if you came off rude to him, he was rude first. Leaning back in the chair, you tapped on the app that previously asked for the wi-fi connection in order to work, and chose something that you wanted to watch. The headphones you wore began to play and you relaxed slightly.
20 minutes into what you were watching you received a call. Your...dad? Why the hell would he call.. Your face turned sour and you answered the call. Out of all the times, he decided to call when your in a silence you would rather not break? Of course.
"Where are you?"
The first thing he asked. It wasn't in a kind, gentle way, more like a firm and unhappy question. His question was fast, as he left no time to even say 'hello?' when you answered.
"Nowhere fun. Why."
You wished you didn't answer. This was embarrassing as hell for you, talking to you dad, in a previous quiet room now interrupted with the sound of you talking.
"And where would that be? Y/n, don't play these games with me, I am not in the mood."
His tone revealed his anger. Of course it would anger him. Everything you do does.
"I'm at the Midoriya's house.. Grams wanted to catch up or something, i guess.."
You looked at the ground, feeling eyes on you. Obviously belonging to the curly green haired boy who was sprawled across his bed.
"You mean that old friend of yours that ditched you? What, does he miss you or something? I told you, Y/n, I don't want you near people! Your focus should be clearing your record! Not messing around with old friends because your so desperate to be normal!"
Did he really feel the need to scold you right now? You were unsure if Midoriya could hear your father or not but you wouldn't be surprised if he could from how loud your father yelled.
"I'm not. I told you, Grams wanted to catchup with a friend, and she decided to bring me along."
Your mood quickly changed, from earlier being relaxed and nearly at peace, to now, being frustrated and upset.
"Yeah, well you probably talked her into it. She always does what you want because she feels bad for you, you poor, sad, weak, kid whose quirk is useless, unless used for villainy! Do you want me to send those guards over? I'll tell them that I fear for what you might do, then they'll be over and they'll take you away."
"Yeah you do that dad, just don't be surprised when your getting yelled at for doing it. I'll be home soon, okay?"
You were praying Midoriya wasn't paying attention. You were getting angrier and your dad just kept talking! His conversations always involved him with saying something that would bring your self-esteem down.
You sighed.
"Your in so much trouble. Your attitude is not needed and is disrespectful. I feel sorry for that friend of yours."
And with that he hung up. You scoffed, refusing to look up. You knew he was looking at you, even if it was attempted to be hidden glances, but you had no doubt he heard your conversation. You didn't dare to even glance at the boy.
Midoriya was actually shocked. It was true, he heard everything that was said from that phone call, but that wasn't what shocked him. He was unsure if you noticed, but in the midst of the conversation with your dad, you hands pulled the chain out from your neck, and your fingers began to fumble with the accessory that was at the end of the chain. He noticed it immediately. It was half of the keychain that the two of you used to match with. He had no idea you kept it, or understood why you kept it, but it had him frozen. He had no idea if you noticed or not that you pulled it out, but he assumed it was out of nervousness. And that confused him more. Why were you so nervous about talking to your dad? Why did your face look so unsure? Why did your dad say such a rude thing to you? He slightly shook his head turning his attention back to his phone. He didn't care. She probably deserved whatever she was gonna get. He took his eyes off of you. He focused his attention on the All Might interview and pushed any of his previous questions to the side.
Around an hour passed. The two of you never spoke a word to each other, beside the wi-fi part, and you were happy about it.
"Y/n! We need to get home. Your father must be going crazy! It was fun talking to you, Mrs. Midoriya, we should do this again. And I hope your son enjoyed talking to Y/n."
"It was a pleasure! Stay safe on your way home! See you soon!"
You walked out of his room, as Midoriya followed. He had a small smile on his face, bringing back his friendly nature.
"I had fun! See you soon!"
You waved at them, mainly to Mrs. Midoriya and left. You only hoped to never see him again.
"I heard your father called. What did he say?"
"Just scolded me. Said I shouldn't be wasting time making friends. The usual, you know."
"I'll talk to him."
Your hand was rested on the arm of the car and your eyes followed the plants, hills, and building that passed, as your grandmother drove.
"It's okay, you don't need to. He won't do anything anyway."
She hadn't responded after that. You were honestly just happy you got to go home. You would have preferred roasting in the hot sun ans getting a billion sunburns than go to his house and just sit there for two hours.
