February 28-Smallville, Kansas
The three of you sat quietly in the car as the radio played. It was now 9:46 at night, but you had been driving since the night before. You easily could've flown in, but, Clark insisted on doing things the hard way.
"Clark, it's my favorite song!" Zeeke shouted from the back.
"Oh, boy." You sighed.
He laughed and turned up the music. The boys got excited and began to sing the words together.
"I've got sunshine on a cloudy day."
"Sing with us, mommy!"
"I'm tried, baby."
"Come on, sweetheart. Just a few bars?"
You rolled your eyes and sat up a bit.
"When it's cold outside, I've got the month of May."
"I guess you'd say, what can make me feel this way?" The three of you sang in unison. "My girl, my girl, my girl, talkin' 'bout my girl."
"Yay, mommy!"
You sang together for the next few minutes until you pulled onto a dirt road. Though it was dark, you could seen a small yellow house next to a big red barn.
'Kent Farm' The sign in front of you read.
Clark parked the car in the driveway before getting out and getting your bags. You took Zeeke out of his car seat and followed Clark to the house.
"Jonathan, they're here!" You heard from inside.
The door opened to reveal and older couple. They let you inside and greeted you with big smiled and tight hugs.
"Clarky!" His mom exclaimed.
"Clarky?" You chuckled.
"Don't."
"Welcome home, son."
"Hi, Amber! It's so nice to finally meet you!"
"You too, Mr. and Mrs. Kent!"
"Oh, please. Call us Jonathan and Martha!"
"Okay, Jonathan and Martha."
"And you must be Zeeke!"
"Hi!"
"You are just so cute!" Martha said. "Do you want some cookies?"
"Yeah!"
She took his hand and led him into the kitchen. You heard small footsteps and heavy breathing behind you.
"Krypto!" Clark smiled as he knelt down and hugged the animal.
"You named your dog Krypto?"
"You think it's weird?"
"I think it's sweet."
"In front of other people we call him Shelby."
"Hey, buddy."
He began to jump on you and shake his tail.
"Down, boy." Clark told him.
"It's okay. He's just being friendly. Aren't you, baby?"
"Clark?"
"Conner." He smiled as the teenage boy walked over to you. "Conner, this is Amber. Amber, this is my...brother."
"It's nice to meet you."
You held out your hand, which he was hesitant to take.
"It's okay, Conner."
He smiled at you and shook your hand.
