There many theories I have assumed while writing the story. Some of them are mentioned in this section.

Year 1125 AD

I have assumed the story is set around 1125 AD. This is a roughly calculated date based on when the Pandyan Dynasty was established in regions of Kerala state. This is not a historically accurate date.

Aikyam

A Sanskrit word, meaning unity. This is a concept where instead of people choosing which form of God they worship, they worship the concept of unity and togetherness. In order to show difference in thought processes of Devas and Asuras, I have stated that this is a concept thought by Guru Shukracharya, teacher of Asuras.

Achankovil

Achankovil is the name of the village as well as river that flows in the present day Kerala. I have selected this important village as a place where Lord Ayyappa (Prince Manikandan) will be receiving his education.

Bala

The Scriptures do not mention the name of King Rajashekara's wife. Here, I have assumed the name of Queen to be Bala. This is purely a fictional name.

Desinganadu

Desinganadu is present day Kollam in Kerala. It is an old seaport and city on the Laccadive Seacoast. The city is on the banks Ashtamudi Lake. Kollam has had a strong commercial reputation since the days of the Phoenicians and Romans. Fed by the Chinese trade, it was mentioned by Ibn Battuta in the 14th century as one of the five Indian ports he had seen during the course of his twenty-four year travels.

Since this place has strong historical references, I chose this place for Bhasmasura's tapas.

Karanji Lake

It is a natural lake near the foothills of Chamundeshwari Hills. Puranas describe Mahishasura as a good king. Since I couldn't find sources to describe his benevolence, I have assumed the lake to be artificial.

Maalikapurathamma

King Rajashekaran and his family worships this Goddess. It can be interpreted as Goddess Meenakshi of Madurai, which is the goddess of the Pandalam royal family since the King is also from same royal family.

Pandya Dynasty

One of the most powerful dynasty in South India, others being the Cholas and the Cheras.
I have assumed Lord Ayyappa to be a part of this dynasty. Hence, his foster father King Rajashekara is of Pandya lineage.

Ten important ministers

I have assumed that there will ten most important ministers in Mahishasura's court. They will be as mentioned in Mahishasura Mardini Stotram which are Durdhara, Durmukha, Madhu, Kaitabha, Chanda, Munda, Shumbha, Nishumbha, Dhumralochan and Rakhtabija.

Other three asuras - Anjan, Kaal and Vaayakaal - were almost killed by Goddess Durga. I have assumed them to be alive, the process will be revealed later, as there is very little information about Mahishi.

War Pigs

I have taken the concept of war pigs from Wikipedia. Link for further reading - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/War_pig
