Chapter 3: Shopping

"Blaire, come on—the limo's here!" Mom called from upstairs.

Ugh. I rolled off my bed and grabbed the outfit I'd laid out.

Denim shorts. White crop top.
Slipped on my Air Forces and braided my hair into a neat French braid.

Brushed my teeth, then grabbed my mini backpack loaded with electronics—and the bag of weapons I never left behind.

Downstairs, Mom waited by the door.

She swung it open and rushed me outside.

On the cracked street waited a sleek, black limo.
A middle-aged man in a tux stood at the curb.

"Good morning, Mrs. Knight—and little miss Knight," he said, approaching. "Mr. Armani sent me to bring you wherever you wish to go. Money is no object—he even gave me this for you."
He handed Mom a golden credit card.

"It's unlimited," he added, bowing gracefully. "He asked me to tell you to have fun and enjoy your last few hours as Mrs. Knight... because soon, you'll be Mrs. Armani."
He opened the limo door for us.

Mom stood frozen, staring at the card. She tried to hand it back, stammering, "I—no, I can't accept—this must—"

I sighed and gently pushed her inside.
"Come on, Mom. Just get in," I said, bored.

Driver's POV
So this is the famous Miss Knight. Pretty little thing—looks just like her mother. She'll fit in here. That coldness in her voice reminds me of the Armani brothers. Definitely a scary family.

Blaire's POV
We left our run-down neighborhood behind. My eyes scanned the streets—drug dealers, gangsters smoking and drinking, the usual chaos.

Soon, boutiques lined up side by side—dresses, hair, makeup, pet grooming, clothing.

We stopped at a wedding dress shop.

Mom jumped out, practically glowing, and I followed. The driver said he'd wait for us, and we agreed.

"Oh my god, Blaire, this one's so pretty!" Mom exclaimed, running her hand over a gown shimmering with sparkling sequins cascading down the train.

She spun around the shop, excited like a kid.

Oh god.

Three hours later, Mom finally settled on her dress.

After buying it, we headed to a luxury hotel where she'd get ready before the ceremony at sunset.

She looked conflicted about the cost, worrying about the money Vince was spending.

Well, might as well enjoy it.

I helped her with makeup and hair.
