Melody's POV

I was getting increasingly nervous as I waited for Arcee and Jack. The two of them had just finished a scouting mission in the forests of Oregon, and were on their way back. So far, Optimus, Bulk, Ratchet, Bumblebee, Sari, Fowler, and Raf were here. We were just waiting for-

"Hey, we're back," Jack said as he and Arcee pulled in. However, I noticed Arcee's faraway look.

"You okay, Arcee?" I asked.

"Yeah," the femme responded. "Had a run-in with Airachnid." I remembered the spider-con very well.

"I'm guessing she's back to her old tricks?" I asked.

"Worse," Arcee said. "She's hunting indigenous lifeforms, taking their heads as trophies."

"I was going to ask how bad this Airachnid is compared to Blackarachnia, but now I don't need to," Sari said.

"Yeah, she's pretty bad," I replied. "The only reason she left the Decepticons was to pursue a new 'hobby.'"

"So, now that we're all here, why don't you tell us what's going on, Miko?" Jack asked.

"Okay," I said, taking a deep breath. "Some of you may still know me as Miko Nakadai, Jasper's resident Japanese punk rocker. But the truth is, I'm actually Melody, the long-lost Princess of Cybertron."

"Wait, Arcee, you knew?" Jack asked when he saw that his guardian wasn't surprised.

"She didn't want any of us to tell you until she was ready," Arcee calmly explained.

"Well, it certainly explains the axes that popped out of your arms when we went to board a runaway train," Jack said.

"Yeah," I responded. "To be honest, I don't even know who my sire is or was. All I know is that I was born into Cybertron's royal family on my carrier's side, and Sentinel Prime took me in, raising me as if I were his own daughter. But he wasn't much of a father to begin with."

"Would that explain why you kept sneaking out?" Optimus asked.

"Partly, yeah," I admitted. "I just felt cramped having to stay within Iacon. I wanted to be able to spend time with my people, but Sentinel forbade it. Then the war happened, and I was given even less freedom. What really stinks is that Sentinel claimed it was to protect me, but I knew he knew about the powers I was beginning to develop. Powers that could've helped us win the war, but Sentinel was too much of a bigot to see that I could be a great asset. In fact, it wasn't until Optimus became Prime that the femmes were allowed to join the ranks."

"I remember when the order was announced," Arcee said. "Elita-1, Chromia and I were the first to join."

"Unfortunately, I don't know much else. Shortly after Grimlock and his team went missing, Optimus, Alpha Trion, and I made the tough decision to send me off-world."

*flashback*

"Optimus, Alpha Trion, it's good to see you, but could someone please explain what's going on?" I asked.

"Apologies, Your Highness," Optimus said. "As you are probably aware, Grimlock and his team were sent to scout a potential Decepticon research facility in the Sea of Rust, and we lost contact. I fear the worst may have happened."

"What does this have to do with me?" I asked.

"To keep you safe from the Decepticons, we are sending you to a remote planet called Earth," Alpha Trion explained. "You will be tasked with protecting the native human race. I've already had Ratchet modify your T-Cog so you can blend in with the humans."
