➴ A taennie story...ლ
Jennie's POV
I opened the door to my house and strolled straight to my room. "Today was so tiring," I muttered, throwing myself onto my bed with such force that the pillows scattered to the floor. I yawned, burrowing into the blanket until only my face was visible. The coziness enveloped me, and my eyes slowly closed as I drifted into sleep.
When I woke up, it was already 6 PM. I had slept for two hours like a baby. Suddenly, my stomach growled. "I haven't eaten today," I said, touching my stomach. Just then, my mom walked in, carrying a tray with bibimbap and some kimchi on the side.
"I figured you might be hungry," she said, placing the tray on the nightstand. She sat down next to me, and we chatted while I devoured the delicious food she made. We laughed and enjoyed our time together—it had been ages since we talked like this.
"And then he tripped and broke my favorite vase," she recounted, making us both laugh. "At first, I thought it was you, but your father quickly admitted it was him to save you from trouble."
After a brief silence, I asked, "Mom, do you miss Dad?" She paused for a moment.
"You know he wasn't a great husband, but he was a wonderful father. He loved you very much," she said, stroking my hair. "Of course, I miss him. It's like something's missing in this house. Maybe one day, you'll fill that emptiness with a loving husband and give me grandchildren."
"Mom, please, not again," I complained.
She laughed at my response. "Okay, okay. Now finish your food and rest a little, my little angel." She stood up and left the room.
I lay on my side and gazed out the window. The bright lights of Seoul obscured the stars, so I imagined them instead, just as I used to do with Dad. We always sat on the balcony at night, just before bedtime.
"Close your eyes and imagine so many stars that you can't even count them. Do you see that star shining the brightest? That star will always lead you to me, okay? Just follow it, and you'll find me," he would say.
I took a small casket out of my nightstand's drawer and opened it to reveal a ring—Dad's silver ring, with the words "Te amo" engraved in it. It means "I love you" in Spanish. I didn't know who he dedicated it to, but he must have cared deeply for that person, and I knew it wasn't my mom since theirs was an arranged marriage. Whenever I felt sad or lonely, I looked at the ring.
Time flew by, and it was already 10 PM. I prepared my things for tomorrow's school, went to the bathroom to get ready for bed, and despite my nap, I still felt tired. I lay down and immediately fell asleep.
I woke up to my phone ringing. It was my alarm clock, and for once, I wasn't late for school. I put on my school uniform and headed downstairs with the dish I forgot to put away yesterday. Mom had made me breakfast.
