Malorie's POV:
-1 year later-
I'm in a very, very good mood today.
Why? Because I'm proposing to Baylie today.
Today. In.. 5 minutes. Because we went to a family dinner, I'm going to take her to her favorite park, get down on one knee, and make her my fiancée.
We're walking down the trail that leads to the gazebo. Rose petals are on the ground.
Star did that.
"Tonight was amazing. And very needed, surprisingly? I never knew how stressful writing a book about trauma can be!" She says, looking at me. I smile.
"It'll be worth it when others know your story, Bay. And they're connected to you some way or another."
"And you, Mal." She kisses me. We get to the gazebo, where Mom, Lexi, Declan, Crystal, Star, Brie, Kate, Daddy, Carter, Leo, Levi, and Eileen stand.
My support system. The system I didn't even have a year ago.
"Oh my goodness! We just saw you!" She says smiling. Brie slips me the box.
"Yeah!" Crystal says. Our song, Apocalypse by Cigarettes After Sex starts playing. Baylie looks at me. I grab her hands.
"Baylie," I whisper. Her eyes water.
"Oh, Mal!" I get on one knee.
"I'm a very, very irrational decision-maker. I make them quick and I don't put much thought into them. But... I've never thought of a decision more. I've never waited so goddamn long to make a decision!"
"Truth is, Bay, I wanted to marry you within the first two weeks of knowing you. And it's been two years since we met. And I've thought about doing this for every. Single. Day."
"Because I love you with all of my heart. And I think you are the most beautiful person on this earth. You are my favorite person, and I want to spend the rest of my life with you. I'll save the rest for our vows."
"If you say yes. Will you say yes? If I ask you to marry me? Baylie Eileen, hopefully, Abbott, will you marry me?" She grins and nods.
"Yes! Yes, Malorie! I'll marry you!" I stand up and put the ring on her finger. I kiss her. Everyone cheers.
"You know, you and I, we think alike," she says smiling.
"Really... alike." She pulls out a ring. My eyes widen. She turns on our other song, K. By Cigarettes After Sex, and gets on one knee.
"You've heard me say this a lot, Mal. I've always said I've been in love with you since before I even met you. And that helped me heal way more than you will ever realize."
"Great minds think alike, Mal. I've wanted to marry you since I saw you in my window. Since I knew the pretty girl with the pretty room and the pretty smile."
"You're so loving, and kind, and funny, and supportive, and you're my ride or die. I want to spend the rest of my life with you. Malorie Janelle Abbott, will you marry me?" I grin.
"Yes!" She grins and puts the ring on my finger. They cheer again.
"I can't believe you proposed first! Baby!" She hugs me.
"I know! I had to!" She pulls away and kisses me. She rests her forehead on mine and smiles.
"I can't wait to be Mrs. Baylie Abbott, Mal."
