Katsuki smiled, holding Izuku's hand tight. They had been walking for nearly an hour now, listening to the sound of the waves and talking about random things. Yet, he still hadn't found the right moment to pop the question. He just kept fiddling around with he box in his right pocket all while listening to his boyfriend's little rambles.
"Kacchan, are you okay?"
Crimson eyes locked with greens, blond brows furrowing in confusion. "Yeah, I'm fine, love. Why?"
"You've been spacing out a bunch ever since we got here. If you're tired, we can go back home. I don't mind, it is getting late after all." Izuku smiled, freckles popping up through a pinkish hue. Katsuki scoffed, shaking his head.
"No, no. I'm fine. Keep going, what were you saying?" He chuckled, glancing over to a wide smile as his lover began speaking again.
"Right. Well, after I gave the customer her meal, she got angry at me for not handing her napkins. I apologized and gave her some, but then whined because they weren't good enough. She said they were too cardboard-like... Whatever that means." Izuku giggled, glancing over to Katsuki's face. His smile faded as he noticed the blond wasn't paying attention to him at all, and seemed lost in his own thoughts once more. "Kacchan." The greenette whined, stopping in his tracks as he tugged on Bakugou's hand. The blond snapped out of his trance, looking over to troubled green eyes.
"What?"
"What's on your mind?" The freckled male asked, tilting his head as his brows furrowed in worry.
"Nothing. It's nothing, sweetheart. Keep going." Bakugou forced a smile.
"I'm not going to start talking again, knowing you won't listen." Izuku pouted. "Please tell me what's on your mind. You've been fidgety and spacing out all night."
Bakugou sighed, shaking his head. Was it his fault, that he was too nervous to function normally? He wanted to ask Izuku to marry him tonight. He needed to ask Izuku to marry him, tonight.
He couldn't be a coward about this, what was he so afraid of? He knew Midoriya loved him a lot, so there's no doubt that he'd say yes to Katsuki's proposal. Yet, Bakugou found himself beginning to overthink things, and now he couldn't stop. Maybe Izuku simply wasn't interested in marriage, and that's why he never brought in up in their multiple years of being together. Maybe it was too soon. Maybe he shouldn't try upgrading something that's already perfect.
Now, Izuku knew something was on his mind. What should he do? Lie about it and blame it on a problem at work? Come clean, and ruin the surprise? Try to convince Izuku that nothing's the matter? The third option seemed the best.
"Nothing's wrong, Izuku. I guess I'm just a little tired." The blond shrugged, tugging on a freckled hand.
"We can go home, then. Go to bed and get some rest." The greenette smiled softly. Bakugou shook his head. Going home now would ruin things. He couldn't propose at home, that's weird. The beach was perfect, and he needed to propose here.
"I'm fine, let's walk for another fifteen minutes, and then we'll go home." He winked, earning a nod from his partner. Izuku began walking again, trailing his bare feet in the sand. They had left their shoes next to Bakugou's truck, in the parking lot, and both had rolled up their pants so they wouldn't collect sand.
"Anyways, I had to give the lady some new napkins. I don't even know where Shoto took them out of, he just spawned some high-quality napkins and saved the day." Izuku giggled, looking over to a soft smile on handsome features. A silence roamed as they continued to walk, Midoriya resting his head against the taller male's arm every now and then. While Izuku enjoyed the view of the moon over the waves, Katsuki's heart couldn't stop racing.
