{Kion's POV}
It's around dusk and I'm just about to turn in for the night. Rani said that she would continue patrol until she couldn't. But me, Nirmala and Makini said that she will not fight Cheka. Not after what he did last time. She could've died if I didn't find her when I did. And I'm not risking that again. But after this morning, everything was quiet. Ono thought it was too quiet and I admit, it was quieter than usual. But I don't know if that means anything.
"Lion Guard. Is everything okay?" I asked when they came
"Yeah, it's just a few squabbles. The pandas and the lemurs were fighting again." Fuli answered
"And what about Pinguino? Is he still okay with Kopa? Nothing with them right?" I asked
"They're not happy with Kopa still but they've been sticking to themselves. No problems with them." Anga said
"Okay. Ono, wake up the Night Pride and tell them that I will be awake for a little longer."
"Okay!" Ono said as he flew off
"Lion Guard, get some sleep. Tomorrow, we should be ready for an invasion." I said
They nodded before leaving in separate directions. I went over to a small hill with a dirt patch where I can talk to Grandfather Mufasa.
"Grandfather Mufasa?"
A light appears as Grandfather Mufasa's image came in full view and disappeared when he came.
"Yes Kion? Im here, it has been a long time." Grandfather Mufasa answered
"I know, I need your help now. This lion came and attacked the Tree, he claimed to be Scar's son. And I don't know what to do."
"That is the struggle of the king. The struggle of knowing what to do in a moment's notice. To have the knowledge, you must get close while staying far. Learn to fight back not to wait until you are struck in the back and taken out. This is not the invasion of the Outlands where you have the advantage. You are no Prince taking orders from the King, you are the head, the ingenuity, the mind. As king, you must learn when to fall back and when to strike. This is his game and you are playing right into his hands. My advice to you, play his game, learn the proper strategy, beat him at his own game. Get close while staying far. Learn surprise, learn to manipulate the situation to your advantage, like Scar did when he took over the Pride, like when Simba was able to reclaim the Pride, you must play into your advantage. Don't waste time trying to fight back, strike first."
Grandfather Mufasa said
"How do I strike back when he has the advantage? How can I get close while staying far? Grandfather!" I asked as I started running towards his image
Grandfather Mufasa only smiled as his image faded away. The kind of smile that said, "You will learn". I tried to think when Bunga ran up to me, screaming my name.
"Kion! Kion! It's Cheka! He came back, he's attacking!" Bunga yelled
"What?" I asked shocked, I was planing for tomorrow, not now. "Nguvu said that he would attack tomorrow! Did he lie?"
"No, he attacked ahead of time, no one knew!" Bunga said
"...Fall back."
"What?! He'll conquer the Tree!" Bunga asked in confusion
"No he won't, Cheka is smarter than that, he's trying to tire us out. If we don't give in, he'll think of something else, it's time we took control of the situation, he's getting information from someone, I think I know who, let him think that. I will strike first."
Me and Bunga ran to the battle and I told everyone to fall back.
"What, are you crazy?! Why would we fall back?! You're letting him win?!" Fuli asked in shock
"I am the king. I am the one giving orders, fighting this fight. I will fight with strategy or not at all." I said addressing Cheka, letting him know what I'm doing. Then I turned to Fuli, reassuring her that I know what I'm doing
"Fall back!" I ordered
Everyone stopped fighting and went behind me. Cheka had every opportunity to conquer the Tree, his lions were even encouraging it, but he retreated as well, exactly what I thought he would. Either Nguvu or Kopa is a traitor to the Pride, but I will not do anything about it, they are smart, they can figure it out what I am doing. But they won't know what I'm planning, no one will know, because Cheka will know. Cheka wants vengeance against me and Dad. So he can have it, at least he thinks he can have it. I have to think like the villain to win this war.
{Nguvu's POV}
My confusion knows no bounds with what Kion just did. Me and Kopa went outside of the Mountain Pass where Master Cheka was waiting. And he looked angry.
"What was that?! Why did he fall back?! You two didn't have anything to do with this, right?" Master Cheka question, enraged
"No, Sir. I was just as confused as you. Someone told him to fall back." I said
"But who could've told him that? No one here is that smart." Master Kopa questioned
"I heard that the lions of the past can communicate with us if they choose to." I said "Maybe, King Kion got wisdom from one of them."
"So, you think he's making a switch because of old wisdom?" Master Cheka asked
"More than likely." Master Kopa said "I've heard the same thing."
"So, he's trying to play this game differently. Smart, if only oblivious." Master Cheka concluded
"So, any change in strategy, Master Cheka?" I asked
"Father, you've earned the right to call me Father. But no, he wants to play a different game but he is inexperienced. Let him. I believe that he won't tell anyone about his plan, trying to keep the element of surprise. *smirks* We will continue what we are doing. Let him think that he's on the high ground. Keep doing this, he no doubt thinks that one of you is a traitor to his pride, but he wouldn't want his pride getting suspicious, he'll let you two stay. I do love playing long games, Simba will come in about a month, and we will get our vengeance." Father explained
