My name is so unfortunate. I'm the adopted son of my two fathers, who both love basketball enough to adopt a son named Kobe so they can combine two basketball players' names into one kid. The really sad part about this is that I absolutely hate basketball with a burning passion.
Hi, I'm Kobe Curry. I'm one of the hottest guys in school, just after my nightmarish enemy Will Solace. Will has blonde hair similar to mine, but obtains a shinier complexion and a prettier face. Any girl that goes anywhere near him gets shot by some kind of luminescent energy that surrounds his muscular body. It's like love at first sight with basically every girl and him.
As you can see very clearly, I'm extremely jealous of that guy. At least two girls a day ask him out, but he always rejects them saying he already has a significant other. Why can't he just say he has a girlfriend? I mean, that hot of a guy can't possibly be gay. Just like me, and I'm a proud straight male. My fathers had nothing on me.
None of the hotter girls ask me out because they're too busy drooling over Will Solace. Silently, I proclaimed him my arch nemesis. Still, when we spoke to each other, we maintained flowing conversation somehow.
One day, rumors flew around the school like a new case of COVID-19. New students were popular in our basic urban setting, which was not at all cliche, am I right?
Our staff and maintenance members prepared for their arrival as they always did when new kids arrived. I was assigned to be they're tour guide, even though our school was relatively small for a public school.
At first sight, maybe I did question my sexuality in the slightest. Although his looks could be atrocious to someone else, the appearance belonging to Nico Di Angelo stunned me.
On his head was medium-length raven black hair, darker than a crow's feathers. Eye bags lingered underneath his eyelids, an aviator's jacket covering his shoulders as he slumped through the halls.
"Where's my tour guide at?" He bellowed, scanning his eyes over my puny body waiting in arrogance. "You, are you supposed to show me around?"
"Yes, I am." With that, I mustered enough confidence to leave my puddle of shame and lead him throughout the halls belonging to my town. "You're Nico Di Angelo, correct?"
"Yup." He seemed distant, as if attempting to spot something other than just his tour guide. "And you are?"
"Kobe Curry," I snorted out. "Make fun of my name all you want. In case you're wondering, yes. Yes, my parents are outrageous basketball fans."
He stifled a giggle while stopping to look at a paper on the school bulletin board. "That's a funky way to introduce yourself."
"Yes, well, someone had to do it," I admitted. "Anyway, it's better to get that off my back now than later. "Are you looking for someone?"
"Actually, yeah," He mumbled underneath his tone. "My boyfriend attends this school, and I was wondering-"
A sharp pain burst through my abdomen as Will Solace rounded the corner of the hallway. His eyes were plastered to the screen in his hand, probably texting his alleged girlfriend.
For the first time during our entire encounter, Nico's lips erupted in a majestic smile. "Woah."
"Woah is right. That's Will Solace," I scowled, gesturing towards the cheerful boy across the hallway. "He's quite literally the golden boy of our entire school. I wouldn't get too attached to him, even if he is cute. He's supposedly got some long distance girlfriend that doesn't go to this school. Straight as a line, I suppose."
Will's attention diverted to the boy next to me, a grin leaping across his face to match Nico's. What was going on?
"Nico?" Will sputtered out, dropping his phone and embracing the shorter emo boy. "Nico, it's really you!"
"Will!"
"Neeks, I missed you so much!" Will planted a chaste kiss on Nico's lips, pulling away from his partner.
That act of physical intimacy really sealed the deal. I was obviously wrong about Will having a girlfriend. In all truth, he was gayer than my fathers.
"Oh, Sunshine, I missed you too," Nico sent me a sly smile. "Straight as a line, huh?"
I gulped.
"Got some girlfriend, eh?" Nico asked Will, nudging him in the shoulder as they grinned stupidly at each other. "Cheating on me? What a shame."
Will scowled, rolling his pale blue eyes. "The guy hates me for no reason, thinking that I, the most bisexual person on this planet, would imagine having a girlfriend."
"There is too a reason!" I shrieked.
"Oh yeah?" Nico snapped. "Inform us, will you?"
"He literally takes all the girls from me! Every single girl wants him instead of me, and he doesn't like women! That's not fair!" I crossed my arms at my chest childishly.
"It's not his fault he's hot," Nico exclaimed, touching his boyfriend's chest with a slender hand. "Lay off the guy, will you? Or you'll have to deal with me."
I stepped back, showing my backing down.
"Good move, buddy," Nico snapped as he enveloped his hand in Will's. "Goodbye, Kobe Flurry, or whatever your last name was. Don't underestimate me or my boyfriend."
