After a few seconds, I finally laid eyes on the officer, who was just about to pay for whatever the hell she was buying. I quickly put on my innocent, scared, lost child face and brought on a few tears to make it even more believable. I took off my hearing aids as well and shoved them into the pocket of my jeans. I wouldn't be able to hear but that just made me all the more believable.

I started sobbing, making my way up to the lady officer.

She turned and immediately her face morphed into one of concern. I saw her mouth something to me, but her words were silent against my ears. I sobbed harder and started signing.

'I'm lost, can you help me?'

Her face quickly changed into one of realization as she thought for a second before grabbing a napkin from a dispenser and a pen from her utility belt and handing it to me.

I got the hint and started writing on the napkin, my handwriting messy as I wrote quickly.

I'm lost I don't know where I am help me please

I faced her, giving her a frantic look as I held back sobs. She quickly wrote down on the pad, where are your parents? I shook my head and brought on even more tears, crying hysterically. She quickly looked up, as if looking for someone, before she called out. I didn't hear what she said, but a guy came over in his police uniform, and I assume he's her partner. She said something to him and he nodded, looking at me.

We're going to take you to the precinct ok? We can help you there. I nodded and forced the cries to a halt, of course letting a few sniffles and hiccups slip, just to make keep up the act.

She placed her hand on my back and even though I was repulsed by her touch, I let her guide me out the store and to the police car. The man placed a 20 on the counter, taking two cups of coffee and a lays chips with him, not even collecting his change as he followed us out to the car as well. The lady cop helped me into the car, and she did it with such tender moves as if I was a doll on the verge of shattering into a million pieces.

She got into the front and her partner sat next to her as she pulled out and started driving towards the precinct. As we pulled out I made sure to keep my hoodie up as I gave the finger to the two guys in the gas station, watching as they glared at me, unable to see my face. Cocksuckers.

I swung my feet back and forth as I sat in an interrogation room, happily sipping my chocolate milk and munching on my cookies. The nice lady officer from before gave them to me, and told me to wait here. It's been like an hour, but I've kept myself entertained.

The sound of the heavy metal door opening broke me from my little day dream, and I turned to face whoever came in. It was a lady, a different lady than last time. This lady wore a green pencil skirt and white blouse paired with black heels and her work case along with a clipboard. She had blond hair and light brown eyes as she walked up to me, taking a seat in front of me across the metal table.

I hear you are deaf. Is that correct? She signed. I nodded, sniffling. Her eyes softened as she seemed to be taking in the state I am in, before she composed herself and sat up straight. Can you tell me your name, sweetie?

I nodded and signed my name. A B E L L A. She nodded, scribbling down on her clipboard.

She started asking me questions, some I lied, some I didn't, and she explained how they would run my DNA through the system to find any living relatives. I let a guy come in and take my blood, and he said they'd have the results shortly.

There was a long period of silence after the man took my blood and left. It was just me and the lady who, earlier, said her name was Emily. Emily Noel. Pretty name I guess. She told me she was a social worker.
