After the funeral, Shelby and Katherine headed back to the Evermoore on the half-dead unicorn that had bought them there in the first place. Shelby got on behind Katherine, wrapping her arms around the princess' waist as the unicorn sped off in the direction of her swampy home.
"Do I look like I've just cried?" Asked Shelby as they dismounted from the unicorn, into the fresh wet mud when they arrived in the Evermoore.
Katherine held Shelby's face in her hands as she examined her eyes, "No... but you know what you do need?"
Katherine bought them closer so that their noses were touching. Shelby grinned, "What do I need?"
"A loving kiss from your-" Katherine went for Shelby's lips, who jolted backwards, still in Katherine's grip.
"You little-" Katherine righted herself before she fell over, unimpressed with Shelby's audacity.
"Yes...?" Shelby asked, a small smile spread across her lips.
"Fine," Katherine took her arms and folded them across her chest, a childish pout on her facial features.
"Awww, Katherine's grumpy cause she's not getting her daily dose of love?" Shelby giggled, teasing the princess.
Katherine refused to look Shelby in the eye but a small smirk flashed across her face.
"Come here, then," Shelby pulled Katherine close to her and the princess, unable to resist, put her arms around Shelby's neck and kissed her.
They pulled away from each other, Katherine with a grin on her previously displeased face as she bent over Shelby, who asked, "Better now?"
"I should be asking you that question," smirked Katherine, slipping her hand into Shelby's, letting the witch straighten herself.
"Grandma's waiting," Shelby glanced down the path that led to her hut, "She said she'd do us breakfast,"
The air was still and the sun was shining as they walked down the path. There wasn't any trace of the rain but a few droplets gripping onto the thick swamp leaves and the squelch of wet mud underfoot. Sprites hummed to themselves as they milled around their homes, talking to each other in their own grizzly tongue.
They were half way down the path that wound through the village of the Evermoore, when an ear-splitting croak thundered up from the dense foliage of the surrounding swamp, distrupting the peacefulness of the village.
The two froze, squeezing each others hands hard, nearly stopping their blood flow.
Shelby's breath hitched and - after getting over the original shock - her eyes twinkled with glee as she realised who the throaty croak belonged to, letting go of Katherine's hand as her princess doubled over, choking on her shock.
"What on earth was that-?" Katherine spluttered, regaining some composure.
Shelby was bouncing up and down like a space hopper, fizzing with excitement, earning her a first class who-gave-you-too-much-coffee look from Katherine.
"It's- It's- It's The Elders!" Shelby squealed bouncing up and down, clapping her hands together.
Seeing that Katherine didn't share her enthusiasm, Shelby rolled her eyes at her, hands on her hips.
Katherine raised her hands defensively, "I'm not the magic expert round here, am I?"
"Come on, I'll show you," Shelby sighed, grabbing hold of Katherine, dragging her away from the path towards the tall gloomy trees of the Evermoore.
