"You don't trust me?"
As Ranpo's words hung in the air, the atmosphere in the room instantly shifted. The heat of your shared passion gave way to a tense, uneasy silence. His lack of trust was like a knife in your gut, cutting through the haze of desire that had enveloped you only moments before.
But before you could respond, there was an abrupt knock on the door, jarring the two of you back to reality.
You let out an annoyed sigh, ignoring the knocking as you muttered under your breath, "and here I thought we were finally starting to get somewhere," your eyes rolled of their own volition; your tone laced with frustration as you climbed off his lap.
"You have not given me a single reason to trust you, [Y/N]."
You ignored him.
The knocking only grew louder, a persistent drumming that echoed through the room. Eventually, you relented, crossing the room to open the door.
And there, on the other side, stood Poe. He was drenched from the rain, his hair slicked back against his forehead. But it was the look on his face that caught your attention, a look of pure desperation.
"Poe? What are you doing here?" You asked, your annoyance melting away as you took in his distressed expression. "Are you okay?"
Poe shifted from foot to foot, his eyes darting towards the bathroom. "I'm sorry to bother you! I know I said I wouldn't be at the apartment, but I accidentally combined bleach with a toilet unblocker, which sparked a chemical reaction that released a plume of poisonous chlorine gas. I can't stay at my house in Yokohama for two days, so I'm here...and...I really need to pee!" He blurted out, his voice strained.
You couldn't help but let out a laugh at the absurdity of the situation. Ranpo, meanwhile, was rebuttoning his shirt, placing a pillow on his lap. You opened the door a little wider, allowing Poe to enter the apartment, and you watched as Poe speedily rushed to the bathroom.
Your annoyance immediately returned as soon as Poe was out of sight, and you turned to face Ranpo, a frown on your face. "You're an asshole, do you know that?"
"And you're going to betray me." He stated in a matter-of-factly tone.
Your irritation simmered under your skin as you glared at Ranpo. You snatched your coat from the hook and shrugged it on, ignoring the rain drumming against the windowpanes.
