It was cold and damp outside and here I was traipsing in the dark with a very light jacket on. I mean, I guess after all these years as an angel made me dumb, because why in the hell would I be out here dressed like this? Like dumbass, you could've stolen one of the guys jackets before you ran off. I am so stupid, stupid, stupid. Why can't I be like any normal girl, oh that's right! I'm dead and an angel. This blows. But I have to admit, I did make it this far without my brother's help. I refused to stop and go back now, it would mean a huge argument and long ass lecture and I was so not in the mood for it. My brothers still treated me like that young girl they used to know. Like hello? I'm an angel; I think I grew somewhat right? I shake my head. I needed to find that vampire I talked to earlier, he knew what happened to me the day I died – it was all a blur to me. Why was that particular day erased from my mind and why? I shook my head and pulled my jacket more tightly around me and huffed as the air seemed to drop even more. It was freezing out here! Wait! Is that a good sign or bad sign? Stop it Alana and keep moving – it will keep you warm. God, how long have I been walking and am I even close to where I should be? The thoughts began to tumble around in my head, keeping me unaware that I was not alone.
"Lost are we?" a voice asked and it broke me from my thoughts. My eyes widened and my skin began to crawl. Ah shit! Dean would be so pissed at me for not paying attention. "It's only me, Alana." The voice continued and I whipped around to find the vampire I had been looking for! I was relieved. Wait! What?
"I need to talk to you," I blurted out as I rubbed my hands together to get warm. "I need to know what happened the day I died."
He sighed, his eyes looking at me with sadness. "It was so long ago. Why now Alana?"
"I know I died." I started and pulled my jacket more around me. "But what happened? Why was I there in the first place with my brothers and where the hell did it all happen?"
He sat back on a rock and motioned me to sit. He pulled off his dark jacket and placed it on my shoulders and brought it tightly about me. I gave him a startled look and he chuckled, "I'm a vampire, I can't feel the cold remember?"
I smirked and nodded and wrapped the jacket tightly about me. It smelt of vanilla and cinnamon. It was heavenly. Get it? Angel = Heavenly. Okay. Forget it.
Are you certain you want to know what happened that day?" he asked.
"Yes. Now why was I there?"
He sighed, "Fine. So let's start from the beginning then. It all started in 2007 in New Orleans." He said and the memories began to drift back.
Twelve Years Earlier
New Orleans, LA – 2007
Alana sat in the motel room that her father and Majestic had rented. Her father was furious with her and she could feel his and Dean's anger. All this time she thought that this was her family, but she had no one and was all alone. So it was time for her to go.
She looked over to where Sam and Majestic slept; Dean and her father were out. It was a perfect time to run. So she grabbed her things, opened the door quietly and slipped out into the night. She quickly ran down to her car and hopped in. Scrunching down in her seat as her dad and Dean pulled in and parked the Impala. She watched as they walked up to their room and entered. She sat up and slipped her seatbelt on and started the car; Dean had caught wind of what was happening and was fumbling with his keys as he ran for his car. She peeled out of the parking lot, heading away from the motel and her supposed family. She had to hide, Dean would be searching for her – so she pulled off into a dark alleyway, parked her car and turned off her lights. Dean's car passed a few minutes later as she waited to see if he would double back. When the coast was clear – she grabbed her things, pulled out the keys from the ignition and pulled herself from the car. She threw the keys on the ground before hightailing it out of there. This was the last thing she needed to ditch – a remnant of her past.
She made her way away from the French Quarter looking for a house that belonged to someone she knew and associated with. The only issue was that he knew her as Rose White and not Alana Winchester. A few minutes later she was standing in front of his door – she paused before knocking. When the door opened, a young man in his mid-20s answered with a shocked look. "Rose?"
She nodded, "I need to go home Jared. I need to get back there. Can you take me home?"
He just looked at her and let her in. "Rose? What's wrong?" he asked as he closed his door.
"I'll tell you in time. I need time." She said and brushed a tear from her cheek. She felt odd, like she wasn't herself, but continued, "I'm sorry."
He places a hand on her shoulder and the touch feels off to her. She shrugs it off as nothing. "It's fine Rose. Talk to me when you want. I'll be here."
She hugs him. She felt like time stopped for a brief moment before she closed her eyes, "Thank you Jared."
"Go to bed. I'll see you in the morning." He says as he guides her to the guest bedroom.
She vaguely remembers him telling her that breakfast was at 8am sharp and her jokingly saying "you and your schedule" before she fell asleep.
Present – 2019
"Were you aware that you were being possessed?" he asked.
Alana looked into his blue eyes and shook her head. "I didn't even know it was you Jared. How could I forget you?"
"Castiel had to erase from your mind all that happened. Do you remember the amulet you wore?"
Alana shook her head again, "No. What is so important about it?"
New Orleans – 2007
Alana wears an amulet around her neck containing Romanian gypsy blood and Irish witch blood. Her family's blood is on her mother's side. Its powers are strange here in New Orleans and she has made a deal with the Demon in order to keep her family safe. But the Demon is not happy with her and corners her while she is alone and throws a dagger into her heart. The amulet begins to shine a brilliant red and radiates around her. The Demon posed as her boyfriend Alex and smirks. He knew that by her bringing out her powers like this would slowly turn her to the dark side. The only thing he wasn't prepared for was the ball of fire that comes from her hand.
Present – 2019
"What am I?" Alana asks.
Jared laughs, "An Angel. Your vampire witch died that night when you were possessed by that demon Ruby. That bitch was a holy terror but she kind of helped in the end – but it was a show as your brother Dean sent her back to hell."
"Then how did you become a vampire? Did the Demon kill you too?"
Jared nodded. "When he left my body, I was dying. I wanted to die. But this vampire Gregor, he turned me and here I am."
"I'm so sorry." She tells him.
"It's fine Alana. It was never your fault. I'm sorry you died that night. I'm just glad you're back." He says and hugs her.
She laughs as she pulls away, "So I'm not special anymore?"
"Not in the way you think." Castiel says as he comes into view. "Jared was allowed to tell you so much of yourself. Now that you know how you died – can you help fight now, like here in the present?"
"How?" she asks.
Castiel looks her dead in the eyes and says, "Rise Phoenix rise." And her eyes go blood red.
