A/N: Enjoy a picture of the one and only Lorenzo (Josh Peck!) for this chapter! And, just so you guys know, it's like 3 in the morning right now, so if you find any typos or things that don't make sense that would be why. Feel free to comment if you find anything wrong, and I will be sure to fix it. Thank you!
For the first time in a long time, running wasn't helping anything. The more I ran, the more pissed off I seemed to get. Instead of clearing my mind, it just seemed to make me think more. It wasn't until I finally stopped running over an hour later that I realized exactly how exhausted I was. As I bent over, gasping for breath, I looked around and tried to figure out where I was.
I had apparently found my way to the outskirts of town. I was on a dirt road, surrounded by wood posts, barbed wire, and cows. Great. I turned around, deciding that following that road was my best bet at getting back to town. This time, however, I was walking. I may not get hangovers, but going for an hour and the morning after getting drunk when I hadn't had any water made me feel a little nauseous.
After I had, for the most part, caught my breath, my mind wandered back to the exact topic that I had been running from. I really cared about Dillon, and I didn't want him to sit in prison for years and years for a crime he didn't commit. But on the other hand, Callie was right. Dani and Mack were two of the sweetest people in this town. They didn't hesitate to befriend me on my first day, and it wasn't hard to feel like I had known them for years. And the two wouldn't do well in prison. They were too pretty, too girly. How was I supposed to make this choice. I could easily go to the police and tell them the truth, but who would back me up? I'm not even sure Dillon would, he knows better than anyone what jail is like and how Dani and Mack would fare. So was I just supposed to let my boyfriend take the fall for this horrible accident? I shook my head as the same thought passed through my mind for what seemed like the millionth time today: how did my life change this drastically in a week?Exactly one week ago, I was sitting in my new room with no friends, terrified of how Monday would go. And within the next seven days, I somehow managed to befriend a group of people that had accidentally killed someone and covered it up as a murder, gotten into a serious relationship with the town's bad boy, and get caught in the middle of those two things.
"Blaire?" A boy's voice pulled me from my deep thoughts, and my head snapped up to see a truck that had stopped right next to me with a very familiar head hanging out the window.
"Oh, hey David," I said, my voice sounding weak and defeated.
"What are you doing out here?" he asked.
"I went running and kind of got lost," I admitted. "Does this road lead back to town? I think I only followed this one, but I'm not really sure." Instead of immediately answering me, David ducked his head back into the truck, where I could hear him conversing with someone else.
His head soon popped back out of the window as he said, "you can just hop in if you want. We're going into town for, uh, stuff, and would be happy to take you wherever you need to go."
"Really? I don't want to make you guys go out of your way at all. You can just drop me off once we reach civilization, I'm sure I could find my way home from there."
"Oh, nonsense! We can take you home. It's not like we're looking forward to going where we're going anyways. The more detours, the better," yelled a female voice from inside the truck. I smiled gratefully and walked over to the truck. David had already opened his door, allowing me to grab the handle to the back door and get in.
"Thank you so much," I said as I closed my door. David then closed his and we took off down the bumpy gravel road.
"Oh, you're welcome, Hun. I would never have just left you out there to burn in the sun. So, David tells me that you've started dating my son," the woman, who I could only assume was Dillon's mom, said cheerfully.
