Fitting In Already

As soon as Jake dropped, the two guys who had followed him into the detention room went after Dillon. Instantly, the room was in chaos. Dillon's group of friends rushed across the room to back him up, a couple girls screamed, and the rest of the room gathered in a large circle around the fighting boys.

"I know this is lame in the middle of a fight, but, Jesus Hallway?" I asked Callie, partially shouting over the commotion.

"It's the only hallway in this school with no cameras or anything. People rarely go there too, so it got the nickname 'Jesus Hallway' because 'the only person that can see your sins is Jesus,'" Callie explained. I nodded and turned her attention back to the fight. Now that Dillon's group was there backing him up, Jake's two friends were way outnumbered. They both backed up instantly, and everybody began to quiet down. Almost instantly Dillon took charge, giving orders to everyone.

"You two, Jake's friends! Get him to the nurse. He had an accident in the gym, someone hit him in the face with a weight, got it? Good. Haylee, don't even think about moving another step. The rest of you, put the room back together. Make sure Mr. Ross won't know a thing," he commanded. Instantly everyone did as told, although Callie and I really just stayed close to Dillon and Haylee so that we could eavesdrop.

"Why am I still here? I'm not just going to let myself be stuck in detention with you losers," Haylee muttered.

"One question and you're free to go," he said simply. She gave him a nod of agreement. "Is it true? Did you really...do Jake today?" Dillon questioned.

"Just today? Or do you want to know of every time? You and I have been together for two weeks and I lost count of the amount of times I've cheated on you, Dillon, does that answer your question?" And with that, Haylee turned and walked out of the detention room.

"Dillon," Callie murmured, walking over to him. Dillon shook his head and walked away from her and everybody else.

"Just do what I told you to," he said. And with those final words, he walked out the door. Everybody in the room froze for a second before doing as he said. We all put the desks back to where they had been before Jake and Haylee had walked in and we had shoved them out of our way. As soon as the room looked semi-normal, we all got back into our groups and burst out talking.

"Should somebody follow him?" Callie asked, looking around at all the guys.

"Definitely not. He's been learning how to control his anger, but when he gets started, nothing we can do will calm him down. He left so that he wouldn't hurt anybody in here," one of the guys responded. I think his name was Joe, but I wasn't sure.

"So, are him and Haylee over? I mean, they never really said," another one of the guys asks.

"Really? Really, Ham?" Joe mutters, shaking his head. The rest of us just stare at him until he gets the point.

"Ham?" I can't help but ask.

"Freshman year when we all played football, he always had ham in his locker. He would eat it before games and practices, anything that he believed required luck. It was his superstition, and it earned him the nickname Ham," Joe explained. Ham just smiled and nodded.

"Is Mr. Ross going to notice that Dillon left?" Callie asked. Even I could tell the answer to that one.

"Doesn't he always?" some guy behind Joe mutters.

"Dillon's going to have a week just because of this," Joe sighed and ran his hands through his hair. Suddenly the door opened and everyone looked up, only to find Mr. Ross looking at us.

"Oh come on guys, you always have someone keep track of time. Let's try this again, I'm going to go get a drink, and you guys are going to make me believe you were all well behaved students," he chided before walking away. We all put our desks back into rows and stayed quiet as he came back in.
