Chapter Three

~Lissa's POV~

I woke up in a hospital bed, and as I started to remember the past events, I started to cry. I felt arms wrap around me, and I instantly knew that it was Christian. When I broke the hug, I saw that he had bags under his eyes and red rings around his eyes, demonstrating that he was also suffering from the news. I asked him how Layla was doing when I felt a sharp pain in my head. I immediately grabbed Christian's wrist and tried to see what was wrong with Layla, and I saw that she was in pain. I started to talk to her, asking her what was wrong, but she didn't know why she heard my voice in her head and started to tell Aleks that she was going crazy. "Layla, listen to me; you're not going crazy. Tell me what is wrong, and then I will explain why you can hear my voice in your head." I told her,

"I don't know what's wrong. I was sleeping, and out of nowhere my head and stomach started to hurt," she said. I told Christian to go check up on her.

I went into her body and said, "Layla, you have something called a spirit; it gives you the ability to see auras, heal plants and animals, dream-walk, compel others, and create hallucinations." I explained to her,

"But that doesn't explain why I can hear you in my head." She said,

"Layla, the reason you can hear me in your head is because you are shadow-kissed like me and your aunt," I told her,

"What do you mean when you say I'm Shadow-kissed?" She asked,

"When you were born, you were said to be mentally dead, but I used my healing powers and brought you back to life because I would not have been able to live knowing that one of my kids had died, but by bringing you back, you became Shadow-kissed, meaning that you, your aunt, and I have a bond because, like you, I also brought your aunt back after she died in a car accident with my parents. I told her,

"Wow, so I was born dead and revived." She said it in a surprised tone.

"Yes, but think of it as being given another chance in life," I told her. She said OK, and we stayed in silence for a couple of seconds when the door opened and Christian came in. I told Layla to tell him to come back to my room.

-The next day-

I got discharged and went straight to my daughter's room to see how she was doing. When I got there, I felt a pain in my neck. I entered Layla's room and saw a strigoi. Luckily, Rose was behind me. She killed the strigoi and sent guardians to check the perimeter. While she did that, I checked Layla. I saw that the strigoi had bitten her, but he did not kill her or turn her into a strigoi. I quickly healed her and checked her vitals, and they were back to normal. I told Doctor Alvarez to make sure that the baby was completely fine.

-A few minutes later-

Doctor Alvarez came in and said, "Your Majesty, the baby is completely fine; there look to be no abnormalities in its health." he said,

"Good, Doctor Alvarez. I was wondering if you could tell how long she has been...pregnant." I asked him still getting used to the idea that my daughter got herself pregnant,

"There is no way of telling exactly how long, but I can give you an average," he said. I told him it was fine and asked if I could leave some guardians in the room since I have to leave but don't want her to encounter any other Strigoi; he said it was fine and left. I asked Rose if she could leave six guardians to protect Layla; she said sure and left with me.

-A few hours later-

I got home with Christian and Aleks, and they both went to bed while I went to my office so I could arrange a meeting at court.
