Sir Benjamin sat at his desk with his paperwork. He was deep in thought when a commotion outside his door broke his attention. He grumbled and shook his head; he already knew who it was.
The doors slammed open and Robin barged in.
"This again?" Sir Benjamin asked sarcastically as he shuffled his paperwork.
Robin marched up to his desk, "We need to tell Maria."
"No, we don't. Richard will be fine—"
"It's been almost a month! How much longer will you make him wait?"
Sir Benjamin shook his head. "We'd only be putting Maria in danger."
"Oh, bloody hell you know that's bull! She will be furious when she learns the truth! We need to tell her!"
Sir Benjamin scoffed, "This is what, the fifth time we have had this argument? My answer is no. It has always been no and will remain no! Since when did you become her advocate, this is all for your friend isn't it? You don't care for Maria—"
Robin angrily slammed his palms on the table, "You don't know what I feel! I care for both and damn well know that telling Maria is the best thing, for everyone! If she knew from the start, we wouldn't be in this bloody mess!"
Sir Benjamin remained silent but shook his head. He refused to involve his niece. She would only be in danger.
Robin was furious, there was no winning against this stubborn man. He marched out of the manor.
Back at the castle, he joined Jane, Maybelle, and the rest of his friends in his father's office.
"Guessing it didn't work?" David asked.
"No," Robin said with a scowl. "Bloody fool would rather dig Richard's grave."
"I can't believe him!" Jane gasped.
Robin angrily shook his head and turned to Maybelle. "Here, can you write these letters? Make them look like they were written by Loveday. We'll need them to take the girls out of school."
Maybelle nodded her head and sat at his desk. With a quick flick, she immediately set to work.
"I wish we didn't have to go about it like this," Henry groaned. He didn't want the girls to get in trouble. Lizzy cared a lot for school and would be heartbroken if she were expelled.
"What other choice do we have? Richard isn't getting better and frankly, I'm bloody tired of all these secrets. It's ridiculous," Robin said and then focused on David. "You're coming with me, we leave tonight. Ready the carriage, I'll let my father know."
...oOo...
"Lizzy honestly, will you settle down?" Cat chided.
Lizzy and Cat were in their rooms. Cat was finishing her essay on Medieval History. The same essay Lizzy was supposed to be working on but hadn't touched since receiving the assignment.
"I can't. I haven't heard a word from Henry. It's been almost a month. He hasn't responded to any of my letters."
Cat rolled her eyes. "A month without speaking to Henry won't kill you."
"No, you don't understand, they went out on a lead for Charles' friends, what if something happened?"
Cat put down her pen and looked at their calendar. She hadn't heard back from Jane either. She was probably busy with her family. "Well, you can't do much else so you may as well not worry yourself to death. You'll only fall behind in school and make matters worse. Perhaps their mission is running much longer than expected?"
