Luz { Woods • 1:49 AM }
It's still raining—perhaps even harder this time. Wet socks don't exactly make a girl any happier.
The dark ink of the past reigns over the light...It's not that far of a walk, but it isn't exactly an easy trip in the dark. Oh! I reach for the crumpled glyphs in my pocket. Maybe a light spell will do the trick? I mean we aren't that far from the door and..
Oh.
The paper is soggy and wet. The rain must've messed it up. Of course, right? Duh. Why didn't I think that—why didn't I know that? I stuff that useless thing into my pocket. I hope no one saw that. I hurriedly pick up the pace, stomping forward to get a bit more ground away from the others.
I push past a branch away from my face, stomping my way past the wet mud. The branch flicks back.
"Ow!" says Hunter, raising his voice, "Hey! Can you slow it down a little?!"
I turn back and let out a nervous grin, teeth and all—the branch must've socked him right on the neck. Y'ouch. "Whoops. Sorry..I just..really wanna get some rest is all!"
Amity catches up just behind Hunter. Willow and Gus aren't far behind. "Luz, are you..."
She reaches for my shoulder again, but this time I wince away. Her hand flinches back, almost as if I've wounded her, again. Willow and Gus look at eachother in concern. They're not sure how to help, and I don't blame them.
Every reminder of the the situation hurts. I wish I could sit and wallow in the laughter of Hunter being a goofball forever, but now it feels like I'm wasting time. What if King is hurt? What if Eda is gone? What is we're too late? We need all the time we can get. Oh god, I didn't even think about how mamá would react to me coming home.
"I'm sorry Amity..uhm..Can we talk about this later?" I suck air through my teeth, stalling for some excuse. Think. Think!" I'm just..really focused on trying to find the path right now. It's been awhile..and I got a headache! Y'know?"
"Oh..right! Okay.." Her arm hesitantly retracts. She responds with a small nod. She lets out a soft, adorable awkward grin. "No worries."
I fake a half-witted smile, nodding my head in response. "Mhm!" I reply eagerly. Too eagerly. Shoot. I continue leading the way.
Gus
Awkwarddddd...
Titan, this is a lot. My eyes scatter the scene for a slice of comfort. I look at Willow. She looks back at me. I suppose it's my turn to thin out the tension.
"So..where are we headed?" I ask. Before I realize it, I have my right hand reaching over my left arm to comfort myself. I rub my thumb on my arm. We aren't that far, but the door is out of sight now. My anxiety slips between the seems of my mind again.
I just hope dad's okay.
Luz steps onto a small, concrete pathway. A human sidewalk, I think is what it is? She doesn't turn to look at any of us.
"My home."
