The next night

Abrariel gave Raziel a hug goodbye before he stepped out of the wooden front door for the first time since arriving in Heaven. Raziel had said the town was only an hours walk away, the city another two hours after that. Abrariel didn't plan on going into the city, so he was fine with the hours walk to get to the town. He probably could have run the whole way without having to stop for breath; the advantage of being dead, but he wanted to take in his surroundings.

The moonlit fields were beautiful, fields of wheat, corn, tomato, vineyards, orchards of apples stood tall in the distance, the cries of animals could be heard in the air where a soft wind blew. Abrariel pulled the soft hood of his jumper over his head and put his hands in the pockets of his light blue jeans, taking in the calm of the farmland. The dirt path turned to cobble before Abrariel felt satisfied at the moon lit fields.

He looked around. It was a Friday night, and no one seemed to be around, all was quiet. He continued walking into the town, the houses were all the same, white wood homes with red tiled roofs and pretty porches and gardens a bloom with flowers. The cobblestone paths of the town were completely free of dirt and rubbish, this was so unlike Brisbane city, Abrariel was amazed. He saw an old looking building that had a large sign that indicated it was the butchers, Abrariel headed towards it, hoping for a snack.

"They will not be open this time of night."

Abrariel turned, the voice had come from behind him, but it didn't sound threatening. It belonged to an Angel, another kind that Abrariel didn't really recognize. The Angel had long, cream-coloured robes draped over his body, which seemed skinny for an Angel, his skin was ghost white, his eyes were as blue as the midday sky, his hair was blond but was so light in colour it was almost white, and his wings were large and looked soft to the touch.

"Who are you?" Abrariel asked, mistrust towards the Angel walled off his heart, but begged to be melted away down to trust.

"My name is Jorden, I am a Main Angel, and I work in Heaven's Court. You can trust me, Abrariel," the Angel explained, folding his wings tight behind his back.

The mistrust strengthened when Abrariel heard his name spoken. "How do you know my name?" He asked in a hiss.

Jorden moved closer so his voice didn't carry on the silent air. "Can you keep a secret?" He asked.

Abrariel nodded.

"I'm Raziel's mate," Jorden murmured.

Abrariel looked at him, his eyes wide, shocked. Raziel had a mate? How come they didn't live together? Why had they only met now? "Why haven't I heard of you?" He asked.

"Our relationship is a secret, my kind is only meant to mate with our own, but when I saw Raziel the day after his branding, my heart went to him. We started off as friends, but things moved quickly after our first meeting," Jorden explained.

The mistrust started to fade, this Angel was close to Raziel, so he couldn't mean any harm, right? Abrariel needed more time to decide on the matter.

"Why don't I show you around this part of the town?" Jorden suggested, his eyes hopeful.

"Sure," Abrariel wanted to get to know the Angel more, "I just need to get home before dawn," he added.

"Yes, you're a Vampire, don't worry, we have a good few hours till we need to head back," the Angel's blue eyes were kind.

Abrariel followed Jorden down the moonlit cobble path, looking at the glowing buildings as Jorden explained what each shop sold, and told him about some of the Angel and Soul families that lived here. Many of the shops were like those in the Living, grocery stores, clothes shops, and one or two fast food places, there was even an arcade along with way more. Some of the families that lived here, both Angel and Soul, had been here for centuries, Abrariel wondered how they never ran out of room.
