Telantes

Telantes slipped out his bedroom window. Raziel didn't like him leaving the house after dark when Abrariel was normally up. Telantes guessed it wasn't fully because Abrariel was up, he guessed it was because Raziel suspected something was being planned. Well, Telantes was smarter.

Outside, the air was brisk and stiff, bringing with it small lumps of pollen and the scent of the farmland. This kind of weather was not uncommon for September. Telantes weaved through the wheat that boarded the outside of the house. He hadn't heard the front door open at all since dark had fallen, so he guessed that Abrariel was staying inside.

When Telantes got to the front of the house, he saw the faint glow of candlelight in the living room window. With his Demon hearing, Telantes could hear the murmuring voices and laughs of Abrariel and Raziel, along with the sound of wood knocking together. Telantes guessed that they were building the crib.

He turned away, shaking his head, and jogged down the dirt road that led to Heaven's Town. Telantes knew all the back roads of the Town like the back of his hand.

Home.

That was what he had found himself calling Heaven. And it was. It was more home than Hell had ever been. He slowed to a walk as he reached the town, this way he just strolled in and disappeared into the thick shadows between the houses and shops.

Walking like a haunting ghost, Telantes spied on the Angels walking around in the orange and yellow glow from the shops and houses, everything looking bleached of colour thanks to the cloudless sky and full moon.

They were all unsuspecting, laughing as they walked, or murmuring as they ate dinner in the restaurants. Souls and Angels alike roamed the streets, going in and out of shops, or just walking hand in hand with their families.

Telantes didn't want any old Angel, he wanted one close to Abrariel. He thought about killing Jorden, but he couldn't bring himself to do it... That would be too cruel.

As he walked down the shadowy alley between the arcade and one of the many food stores, Telantes saw them. They were wearing a long white dress that spread out as she twirled around and around her parents.

Midrea.

Art and Many were good friends with Abrariel, Telantes knew, and so was the young Angel girl, he knew Abrariel babysat her now and again. Perfect. She would be the perfect one to kill. It would be like a stab in both families. Everyone would look at the proof and go against the Vampire, even his closest friends. Telantes smirked.

All Telantes had to do now was plan a time and a place. But first, he had to earn the child and her parents' trust. That was key. If he did that, it would be easier for him to get the child alone and away to somewhere where someone random might find her... Or her parents.

Telantes slipped out of the shadows and strolled casually over to the family, a bright and friendly forced smile on his face. The family stopped and looked at him.

"Hi! How are you all tonight?" Telantes asked in a cheery tone as he looked at each Angel in turn, planning.

"Evening, Telantes," Art greeted with a smile, his silvery face bright.

Telantes looked down as Midrea tugged the bottom of his shirt, her eyes wide and hopeful, almost too big for her face. She looked so innocent.

How... How can I kill her? She is too cute! Telantes thought, he glanced up at Many, her living father. He was another Angel that he could kill if he caught him alone.

His heart and brain kept screaming that he couldn't kill the young girl, he looked down at her as she laughed. He just couldn't do it. He looked back at Many and smiled, showing just enough teeth to look friendly.

"What do you do for a living?" Telantes asked, hoping he sounded casual, approachable. He put his hands in his pockets as his hair brushed his shoulders.

"I'm a Farm Angel. I bless the crops of all three Realms while I work in the fields. But I also work in the Barns, they're not too far from where you live, you will see them if you walk down the road instead of up," Many explained with a smile, ruffling his feathers.

Perfect

"Do you work there every day?" Telantes asked, trying not to show how much he was planning.

Many nodded. "Yeah. Normally from dawn till dusk, but every odd day I work into the night," he said as Midrea twirled around him.

Telantes nodded, he looked up at the sky, the moon was hanging low, vanishing behind the cottages, he didn't have much time. "I should go, Raziel will miss me. It was nice seeing you!" He called over his shoulder as he ran off, waving. The family waved back before they continued to walk.

Telantes dipped into the shadows again. His mind was whirling with plans. His plan was almost complete. It was almost time.

The Angel was chosen, his fate sealed, and Abrariel's demise clear.
